McAfee upgrade? (Read 373 times)

Those of you with McAfee, what do you think of this upgrade? Personally I think the older-style security centre was easier to use  Roll Eyes

Does it actually offer any benefits in antivirus detection?

Cheers,

Alex

The new one really isn't that much better than the old center, however to get the updated virus and spy definitions you have to update.   The new firewall seems to be better too.

As for AVG. F*ck it. Panda if your for freeware.

Cheers

I kind of like the new update. The little bar on the upper-left part of the screen tells me if any websites cause spam and stuff like that.  Smiley

Does the new McAffee spam you constantly trying to sell you upgraded versions of itself?  That's what I hate about my McAffee.  For some reason it thinks that because it's the spam filter that its own advertisements are not spam.  And I can't block the McAffee spam with the McAffee spam tools.  I had Norton and it did the same thing.  I can't stand either of these two pieces of crap.  I'd rather be spammed from other companies that I've yet to give my business to instead of paying for the privelage of being spammed.

Personally, I don't use McAfee.  This is what I do that gets me great results, and this solution is totally free:

1) Always keep the OS updated with the latest security fixes!!!!!!!!!!
2) Download and run the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool
3) Download the Microsoft Windows Defender and install it (also, keep the definitions updated)
4) Download and periodically run Ad-Aware (also, keep the definitions updated)
5) Download and periodically run SpyBot (also, keep the definitions updated)

The one thing I noticed is Ad-Aware pretty much only catches adware cookies anymore, though first-time use catches alot of junk.  I probably don't need SpyBot anymore, but I run it anyway.  First time, it caught stuff Ad-Aware missed.  Windows Defender appears to be doing a good job becaue those other two apps pretty much come up clean.  I've done this solution on friends computers and they are satisfied.  When I do the initial clean up, there were lots of dialers, trojans, and other nasties.  But after I implemented this solution, my friends have said they've had no problems since.

And, did I mention all of this is free?!?!   Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley
