It really depends a lot on the person. There are some people who should not ride bikes, and some who have no interest. The problem is when you get someone who shouldn't be riding, but does anyway.

Alrot is kind of right. It's more dangerous than driving a car. But then again it's also a lot more fun. Now I live in a somewhat quiet area where you can still ride your bike on a Sunday morning without having a lot of traffic on the road. I've seen how they ride motorbikes (125cc Suzukis) in Nigeria. They scared the living crap out of me. They don't go that fast but they keep their speed everywhere no matter how busy it is on the road or how bad the roads are. Now that is dangerous.
BMan, I've got no idea how many bikers we have here but with more than 20000 members there must be more than us 4.

I find, in England, the only way I can get anywhere now without getting caught in a gigantic traffic jam, is to travel everywhere on my trusty motorbike...
..(it's also the only transport I now have*, having laid up my 40,000 mile motor car 17 years ago because of endless traffic jams!)...
...!
Whenever I go out now I just filter carefully past all the stationary motorists, lorries, buses, taxis, etc, to reach my destination in no time at all, feeling as fresh as a Daisy, and with a big grin on my face!...
...!
2-Wheels is now the way to go...trust me...

I'm not a biker but I'd say that it's more dangerous because of other road users acting like ****s not the riding in itself. I have a biker friend who's had a few accidents,
ALL
caused by bad car/van drivers.

Definitely more dangerous but it works two ways. You can't blame it all on the poor old motorist & I've seen a lot of bikers doing the most stupid things imaginable. They simply don't seem to appreciate the danger & it's a wonder to me that there aren't more accidents. Anyway, I'm told that one of the most common causes of bike accidents is diesel oil spillage on the road.
PS. You wouldn't catch me on a push-bike nowadays, let alone a motorbike.

Rob, I fully agree with you. I had my fair share of car driver stupidities. Nevertheless considering that a car is a 'strong' metal box you're more protected in a car than on a motorbike. So I can understand Alrots concern for when his son decides to start riding.
