Continued from part A here:

Anyway, 2 days went by, and we hit atmosphere. The insertion went well, and soon we were in the upper atmosphere, with several carrier boats releasing their fighters to give us cover if needed.

...

Meanwhile I was strapped into my troop transport, already mentally preparing for the unloading, preflight and take off – Ship came on over the ‘com.
‘Guys, we may have company. I repeat, we may not be alone down here. Electromagnetic irregularities have been detected in the canyon system about 200km from here. Could be some strange mineral crystal formation, has happened before. Or a giant alien artifact, like in those sci-fi stories from way back when…a black hole generator or sun crusher or universal toilet cleaner or something. Or it could mean a great big hot welcome hug from our friends the Chinese….So be ready. Landing in 10 minutes.”
Silence in the transport, every man lost in his own thoughts. Outside, the fighters tightened up and came in close to escort us down.

...

Ten minutes really can seem like a very long time, when every instant you are wondering if your ship will get blown from under your….. but they passed, and we were dropping precipitously towards the landing zone with our stomachs rising to our throats like in some crazy express lift… and then crushing deceleration…..and a massive jolt as we hit Berann soil just a little too fast for the shock absorbers to manage…

...

We were down! I took a look at my co-pilot. His chin and neck were red with blood. He saw my shock and grinned a bloody smile. “Iff alright sir. Bit me tongue...”
Ship came on the com again. “Okay gentlemen. Sorry about the rough landing. Time to get your heads out of your butts and move out!”

To be continued….. Roll Eyes

Thanks Sytse!

They're the best I can do right now, but I'm trying to improve... thanks for the  encouragement!

Working on some composites now - I've put one up in Studio V in the hope of eliciting some critique.... Wink
