Alaska....

Andrew Esselbach's favourite hunting ground, with his DH Beavers... Wink...!

I've been there a few times, with the Alaska Bush Scenery files from Avsim... Smiley...!

I'll tell you what, with the cold weather and the high altitudes, you certainly have to keep a wary eye on your Mixture controls, Carburettor heat, and the weather, else you can very quickly be in big trouble...!!

A very challenging area to fly in...
...and easy to get lost in... Shocked...!

Looking forward to it... Wink...!

With a selection of amphibian aeroplanes*...?

Paul... Cool...!

* as there are not many (any?) default FS9 Amphibian aircraft to choose from, we may have to agree to download some, so that they appear correctly in Multiplayer...what do you reckon...?

Ahh, Alaska. I've spent countless hours exploring the rugged Alaskan countryside puffing around in my DH-2 Beaver.... Cool

I would love to participate, but maybe next winter.... Wink

If you thought flying across the Pacific or Atlantic oceans in your B747 while 35,000+ feet high on auto pilot with the sim time set to 4X was hard, try navigating around Alaska in bad weather at a thousand feet off the ground and navigating with only a map and compass.... Grin
Not to mention that the camp you're trying to find isn't even on the map... Shocked

Paul, the cold isn't too bad, as long as you're dressed warm and you ensure your cabin heat is working prior to your flight. Drinking a nice cup of hot coffee or tea also helps... Cool

What about the Default Cessna Caravan Amphibian, Paul? Or all who wants to join could download a freeware Beaver. We could make a list of 3 or 4 freeware planes which would be allowed to use. Jimbo could post the links to those planes in the announcement of every flight so everybody who wants to join can get them. What about that?

Hi Crash...

The trouble Foz has with the Cessna Caravan Amphibian, is that the front end is fitted with one of those dreaded PT 6 Turbine engines driving the props... Cry.....and I always have serious problems winding the engine/speed down quickly just prior to landing.... Shocked...!

...it seems to take Forever!

They can be a bit of a handful in arduous Bush conditions!

My piston props shut down/slow down quickly... Wink...!

A selection of suitable, downloaded, freeware wheel/ski/float GA piston prop planes which we all use would be a good idea, that way all our craft will be visible in their proper types/models... Kiss...!

We can now expect a blinding argument on what will be the most suitable aircraft, based on every-ones private opinion... Roll Eyes...?
Let the War commence...!
LOL...!

I have a number of suitable Bush planes in my Hangar which I use for that very purpose, but it's doubtful if our other Pilots in the Tour will have them.

Cheers all...!

Paul....I need a Beech Baron fitted with floats.....please.... Grin...!

Suggestions for amphibian airplanes:

All available on Simviation.com

- Maule package 2004 props page 54

- PZL 104 Wilga package 2004 props page 92

- DHL2 Beaver Alaska Tours(!) including updates 2004 props page 57

The last one would be very appropriate, I think.

Excellent collection, Crash...!

(Wheeling them into my Hangar already)...Wink...!

I suppose it depends upon which area of Alaska Jimbo drags us, kicking and screaming...
...following the Coastal area will most likely require an Amphibian due to the large areas of water there ....
..quite what it's like further inland, I don't know, maybe one of the default "wheeled jobs" will suffice than...?
We can but see...Wink...!

Whatever it is, it looks like fun... Smiley...!

Was just thinking - if anybody wants some decent charts for this upcoming tour (or any US flying for that matter), have a look here: http://skyvector.com/ . I always use them when I'm making my way around Ketchikan & Juneau.

Just giving her a try, Luke...

A lovely old Bird, with a good set of controls, very manageable, as all good twins should be, and the radios are simple to use.

She is somewhat slower than the Beech Baron 58, around 160 knots in the cruise with all the needles in the green, but I suppose that is not surprising with all that float gear permanently hanging underneath...Wink...!
The "Bush Flying Unlimited" model is particularly colourful and nice to look at... Smiley...!

She is a bit of a heavy lump, and therefore slow getting airborne from the water, so care must be taken in restrictive water-ways...!

Well worth a try, for the longer over-water trips where comfort is necessary...Wink...!

Cheers all...!

Thanks, Luke...!

Paul... Cool...!

Chaps, it might be that my eyes are getting worse every day but I can't find the Volpar Fozzer took a shot of. The Volpar on bobholland.com is a complete package of 10Mb (wheels and amph.) and is a different BFU repaint than shown here.

Where to find: VolparWATER_am.zip (4mb)     plus    VolparWATERfix_am.zip (3kb)?

Hi Crash...

In the drop-down "Aircraft" menu in the Sim, browse through the list of "Varients"; there are a few of them, with different Textures. The one in my pic is one of them......Wink...!

Cheers...!

Paul...(another varient!).... Wink...!

Also....
...don't forget the trusty Lake Renegade 250, amphibian. A FS 2002 model, but works fine in FS 9.
...and search for the alternative 2D panel upgrade to go with it....(much nicer, with a bendix-King radio stack, and more controls ie; Prop pitch, etc)...Wink.
....Shhhh....the 250 is nicer than the later 270 Sim model...Wink...!

Well that's where I got them Crash, if you havent yet, just download them & should turn out OK.

Below is my real trigear (red/white) flying & maintaining the executive at Montpelier for Europe & UK.

That was the day I proposed to my wife over 40yrs ago, while refitting the coulings after a 100hr check. The only time we could find on a 24hr a day on call, for the busy Yanks.

But they paid relatively well, and no money spared on the B18 for parts, maintenance & equipment, 2 of everything, Flt Directors, Wx Radar, Selcal & what  else. The P&Ws were gleaming from chrome. All these, for those days was something!

Only the best of everything, from the Negresco at Cannes & Mullin Rouge to the London Hilton, & Lemans to  Gleneagles.

Alas one of the handful of fotos given to us by relations, after 100ds of stills & moovies were stolen on arrival UK to retire, when the porter collected 9 suitcases and brought to the car 8. We never traced the samsonite with all records of our working & the kids's lives, from Nigeria to the Persian Gulf, from the Sudan to E.Africa, the Med. & Europe.

Months later I read in the Telegraph that a ring of thieving porters were acquitted after their defence said that "...part of their perks was removing items from laggage...."   B.....B......

Well here I am still flying her dayly, though a pity not a default one.               luke

I found them including a shiny polished one. The Renegade is a nice little thing, Paul. Will try and test it to oblivion when I get the time for it.

Luke, nice picture. As I read your story, I think you had a wonderful life travelling the world. Too bad you lost most of the records.

For the B18 open the Throttle pedestal & drag / size below the radios, so that you can see the gear lights.

When you shut the engines the pitot covers & chocks go in place.

I'm very delighted to know that Paul. Did you know that the dancing naked girls in the movie were wearing fleshcoloured bodysuites? Now that is a fact I was looking for all my life.....

Crash Wink (time to get my white tights out of the mothballs)

Would advise anybody in his right mind to keep off & be normal.

Hi Luke...!

There are a few of us "Oldies" here, always ready to cheer you up, and drag you away from the "Rat-race", "Work", "Fellow Men", "Employers", "Arsoles", etc, etc... Wink...!

We/I have been there, experienced it, got peed-off with it, etc, and hopefully will have a bit of FUN in the Sim V Multiplayer Flying community... Wink...!

I find the best way is to be comical most of the time, and try to make others laugh, and forget that the World is mostly full of annoying Arsoles...which it is!....Trust me....Wink...!

Paul... Wink...!
