I bought CFS3 when it first came out and shelved it that same day. I got it out again 2 years later, shelved it again.

I'm willing to have one last go at it so I just installed it again, added the relevent updates on the CFS3 official website, which were a mission pack, a version update, and a aircraft fix update to that version.

I have an old "shader fix" update for CFS3 on my PC which I have not installed yet. I'm not sure where this came from or what it was for exactly.

So far I am appalled by CFS3, though I loved CFS2 and played it for years. Is there something I have missed and can I be fastracked to CFS3 glory with some good advice or addon pack?

Something else to try while you're waiting for MAW ... why not download & install the free "OFF" WWI add-on for CFS3?  It's a great example of what CFS3 "should" have been out of the box ... particularly with regard to scenery & effects.  In my view, the immersion factor within OFF is fantastic.

Download from the "Downloads" link at this site: www.overflandersfields.com ... approx 600Mb + a 100Mb patch.

Cheers - GhostFlyer

Thanks for that, I'll give it a go.

Well, I was flying CFS2 online regularly, and I had it configured with about 4gbs of addons. It really was a lot of fun. I mainly played "stock only" dogfights where I did a lot of room hosting, or I would host hops through scenery I developed or on other people's servers. The graphics were smooth and crisp for it's day and CFS2 was generally a very playable and enjoyable sim.

I also flew MSFS 95, 2000, 2002 in the years leading up to that point as well as sims by other companies on the Amiga 500.

One look at the blurred countryside in CFS3 and I thought I had a major problem or that I needed to configure the game. So I look for the usual MSFS options and I find the interface is very basic with no advanced options.

The Aircraft choices and flight models were dodgy in CFS3 I thought and I never came to grip with the view options.

Shortly afterwards I started flying IL2FB and I never looked back, I felt MS lost a huge opportunity and abandoned CFS3.

You liked the FS-95, 2000, 2002 & CFS2 flight models & thought the CFS3 ones were "dodgy", interesting concept.

As for the CFS3 plane choices they are just your basic,  a not very imaginative, name all the most popular planes in the ETO during WWII & fly them.  Wink

Concept explained by the fact he likes IL2. Wink Grin
