For those who haven't seen it

GO AND SEE IT!!!! think it has an 18+ rating though....

Not in the UK. The National Viewers And Listeners Association (lead by Mary Whitehouse) a group of self-appointed guardians of public morals made such a fuss Kubrick got so fed up with all the hassle that he decided to withdraw the film from the British Cinemas and never allow it to be shown here again it any format. I believe that this ban is still in place even after his death, but I could be wrong.

Kubrick must have laughed bitterly at that, as would the author of the excellent book the film is based on (Anthony Burgess)... because the moral of the story is that without the ability to choose freely between good and evil, a society is neither moral nor free.
And, to some extent, the protagonist represents the possible result of the emotional repression and isolation found in "civilized" cultures... a ticking time bomb that looks like a normal kid, hence the title of the story.

Censorship is a way of taking away choices to eliminate the stress of having to choose... these idiots would happily embrace dosing everyone on soma or whatever from birth, not realizing that the tidy ,quiet dystopia that would result would be far more horrifying than a future with rampant teen thugs to deal with...

The book is fantastic, and even comes with a glossary at the end for translating all the Russian-based slang... real horrorshow... Wink
