if the boeing 727-200 has a range of 2,400nm, how was it able to go from the usa to the uk?

According to the 727-200 advanced manual, available from Boeing, its range was more like 3200nm. That was the model that flew across the Atlantic

Sorry, im not from Europe nor was I looking at a world map. Its true though it would be easier to go straight from Ireland.
