Do you know what...

I never did like this "Megascenery" and "Photographic" scenery "stuff" ever since I purchased VFR Photographic Scenery: England and Wales, from Just Flight.co.uk.... Cry...!

If you notice, apart from the few building standing up in the air, the rest of the scenery is flat....as in...VERY FLAT!!
...'cos it's a bleedin' PHOTOGRAPH.... Angry...!
...and this includes all the trees, foliage, traffic, etc, as well...!

Compare the New York "Megascenery" with the San Francisco default scenery, with all the Autogen sliders set at Max, and you will notice that in between the skyscrapers all the rest of the 3D Autogen buildings fill up the gaps...as they should.... Kiss...!

Photographic scenery shows buildings, etc, just as various, flat shades of grey...!!

I much prefer using the usual 3D Autogen scenery, especially when flying at low level, and landing...!

Photographic scenery is a five-minute wonder, (trust me!), soon to be discarded in favour of quality 3D Autogen scenery...
...my existing Photograph Scenery CD's now make excellent Beer-Mats... Kiss...!
..and real photographs are relegated to my Photograph Album...Wink...!

Sorry to put a spoke in the works of "Megascenery", "Photographic Scenery", etc, users...
...but that's the way the Cookie crumbles... Wink...!

LOL... Grin...!

Paul...Thank-you, Uncle Bill, for Autogen Scenery... Kiss...!

I though of showing this find with the amazing pictures, really fantastic.

I bought Just Flight's  Fographic Scenery & Mesh for SE England, and is so good & realistic to the quarter mill aviation chart I use for map reading my way around the small airfields.

Note that these screen shots using Megascenery illustrate that the scenery is flat photographic scenery....>>>

http://www.pcaviator.com/megascenery/forums/lofiversion/index.php/t1689.html

In between and around the towers, and in the distance, there are no Autogen 3D objects, and the trees are all flat photographic trees.... Cry...!

Autogen trees are all 2D/3D trees....and all the Autogen buildings are 3D buildings... Cool...!

Photographic scenery is fine for map reading exercises above 5,000 feet AGL...but below that altitude it is always disappointing... Cry...!

Photographic objects are always FLAT...!

My "VFR Photographic Scenery England and Wales" lasted for two days, and for me was a waste of money...(3 CD's at £20 each)... Shocked...!
A interesting, short-time novelty, nothing more..!

Paul... Cool...!

I also dislike photographic scenery, the lack of actual 'scenery' in this photographic scenery is quite disappointing.

Paul I agree with you to a certain extent. But you really need to try some France VFR  (La Reunion is my favorite) or one of the Flightzone1 add ons. I believe the 2 flightzone releases to be the best scenery add on's for FS2004 bar none. The feeling you get on final has to be flown to be believed. I agree that most photographic scenery is worthless but some of it is awesome.

I've tried a few versions of add-on Photographic Scenery, and as always a low level (500-1000 ft AGL) GA Pilot, two things become obvious...

1) Most/all of my landings tend to be at private air strips, unregulated airfields, water landings, etc, so the absence of 2D/3D objects like buildings, vegetation, etc, in the local area is always disappointing and unrealistic.... Cry...!

2) The scenery suddenly changing from Photographic to Autogen, or in reverse, as one traverses the area is disconcerting and unreal.

Users of the old-faithful "Flight Unlimited II", will be well aware of the flat photographic scenery effect when landed... Shocked...!

Many of the Sim Flyers here seem to prefer Commercial Jet Aircraft flying at very high altitudes, and as such, the photographic scenery below is always very impressive...

...but for we "tree-hoppers" down below, it's not nearly so much fun flying over, and landing on a flat, bland, looking glass surface.... Cry...!

Photographic Scenery...?
Been there, tried it, abandoned it, long ago... Wink...!

LOL...!

Scrolling over "Google Earth" is a much better alternative...Wink...!

I don't get why microsoft don't combine FS with Virtual Earth... I mean, its gonna be 3D, photorealistic scenery, there would be houses modelled... Perfect!!!

Oh and MrJake2002, do you by any chance play Battlefield 2? On a BF2 website I saw a guy called, "mrpoptart01" and he had the EXACT same avatar as you... *suspicious*  Cool Huh
