Before I waste a lot of time I thought I would ask if Google Earth Screenshots can be inserted where small villages fail to show up in FS9.

I don't care about 3D buildings, I just want to see something other than a cross road where I live.

Huh Huh Huh Huh

You are right, there are 3 sets of copyrights on Google Earth information.  I purchased Google Earth Plus and that gives me the right to personal, non commerical use of the information.  As long as the information is not used to futher a commerical venture I will be ok.

I know that several real estate companies have been called to task for using the information in their advertising without paying for it.   Google sells a special license for commerical use and they will go after anyone that they catch using the informstion without paying the fee.

All of that said all I want to do is enhance my own little virtual world which is allowed under their license.

Now back to the original question.  You said that it can be done, how?  I do not need a cookbook, just directions to where I can find one.

Thanking you for your help. Smiley Smiley

Thanks for the answer Pepper. Smiley

Marfa Municipal airport has about the same area as the town I live in.   Valentine, TX is about 1/2 mile sqiare.

What I would like to do is take small area pictures and overlay them on top of UT so that when I came to a village or other landmark there would be something there to see besides the streets.

If I need some 3D structures I could always add them on top of the picture at a later time.

Right now all I want to do is add a photo as a piece of landclass, 3D not required.

Yes, it most certainly can be done so long as there are aerial photos of your town.  But it's the LEARNING part of the process that takes time.  And that can takes weeks or months depending on your skill level, interest, and creativity.  One of the best  programs I have found to lay down some photoreal textures is a program called SBuilder.  You can lay down some 4.8m terrain using that.

If you want as you said just something other than a crossroad as to where you live, you might try adding your own landclass to the area.  YOu basically tell FS9 where you want additional towns, cities or rural areas and you use textures already in the program.  Plus it will add houses, trees and buildings.  SBuilder and a host of other programs will do this as well.

Since I am on a roll here, a 3rd method would just be to purchase a commercial landclass product that provides more detail than the default flightsim.  Several companies make them like FSGenesis.  The hard part is finding out if it covers your town or not.  Maybe there is a trial period with one of them.

Anywho... good luck!

It is a steep learning curve.   Sad
I have spent the past several days surfing to learn all I could about scenery design.
I have downloaded several utility and design programs to help me accomplish what I want to do.
Now all I have to do is learn how to use them and get started on my project. Smiley
