Porsche - mmm, sterilised by the VW Audi family... Remind me, what was the point of that Cayenne thing again? About as pointless as Lambo's Chelsea tractor of many years back...

Where do you think the money to develop the 997 series came from?  Or field their factory ALMS/LeMans entry?  The point of the Cayanne was to maintain Porsche as an independant car company.  Had the Cayenne not been built Porsche would be just another Audi nameplate, and instead of the 997 we'd have hotrodded A4s wearing the Studdgart badge.

Independent.......that removes the Boxster then. Badge engineering at it's best.

Independant does not mean the company doesn't share chassis with other brands.  Independant means the company retains majority voting rights on the board.  In other words, although Porsche enjoys a close relationship with Audi, they are not controlled by them.  They may share some chassis with VW Audi, but they don't have to do what Audi wants them to do.  In fact I've heard rumor that Porsche made enough money with the Cayanne they're considering increasing their Audi holdings, possibly even as a takeover...  Thats a lot of cash.

Porsche: safest of the ones you mention here. But the electrics have almost taken over the control of the car
Ferrari: drive yourself to death in style...
Lamborghini: The sound beats anything... but its just too much 'look at me' styling

There is no way on earth that Porsche could even consider a take over of VW Audi. Cayanne or no, they don't have anything like that money.

Not the GT3, the electrics in that are limited to keeping the engine running, lights and, that's it I think. Not traction control, no nothing really. Not even air con or a radio.

Ferrari and Lamborghini...Both make sleek and beautiful cars...The sound of the engines at full blast is just amazing...I love it...Porsche, for the past I don't know how many years, the Carrera has been looking like the same thing...Talk about creativity...The Cayenne looks like a modified Carrera...Look closely and you can see the head-lights of a Carrera...I'd rather buy a Lancer Evo instead of that piece of junk... Wink

The 911 Carrera has looked the way it looks since the days of the old 356 in the 1950's.  Porsche tried to break away from the 356/911 look back in the 1980s and got crucified for it.  They tried to replace the 911 at the top of the model line with the 928, they introduced the 924/944 at a lower price point, they got their butts handed to them despite the fact that both cars (particularly the 944) were quite good.  They learned their lesson and now all three of their mainstream cars have that 911 look.

All car companies try to share styling cues between models.  Look at all the new models from any company and you'll see similar headlights and grills, etc.  Porsche tried to make the Cayanne share a family resemblance, it's called brand building.  The 911, Boxster, and Cayman share a very similar chassis which is why they look so much alike.  This is actually a good thing as it builds a strong brand image in the customer's eyes.  Marketing departments live for that stuff.

Even the Carrera GT (a totally different car from the 911 Carrera) shares some styling cues.  The Carrera GT however looks very little like the 911, a significant departure styling-wise for Porsche.  Although in this case it's strictly form follows function as the Carrera GT is an otherworldy car, looks and performance wise, kinda like a Ferrari Enzo.

I too would not buy a Cayanne.  But a Cayanne isn't a sedan so nobody would cross shop a Cayanne with a Lancer Evo.  Porsche doesn't offer a sedan so they don't have an Evo competitor.

Porsche. Preferably from the 80s with the old air cooled engine. Simply listening to it gives you an erection.

No, I'm not biased. ;P

Judging from experience, I thought that was what the disabled/small children spaces were for...
