I also just got FSX for xmas (regular edition) Roll Eyes I am happy just to have it, but this is my review!

The upside  Smiley

I really like the animation of practically everything in FSX. the push back truck, the jetways, baggage trucks and fuel trucks. The Ships, the street traffic. The water looks awesome with the reflection of the sky in it as well as your aircraft when you fly across the surface at low altitude. The missions are a cool touch to give ya something entertainig to do when your not doing your won make beleive vacation flights.

The downside  Angry

LAG LAG LAG, I try to minimize how much traffic I use and how much scenery is displayed and I even correct the display settings and I still get lag! Epecially when i am on the ground or flying below 2,000 feet. It is horrible. My FS9 addons don't seem to fly well in FSX. Late model A318's and A340 aircraft, not to mention TOMCAT V.4 seems to fly with lag and then it seems to freeze and unfreeze skipping animation sections. TSK TSK TSK  Undecided This is the reason I really didn't want FSX !

It doesn't bother me as much because I got it for a gift Sad But I am not surprised that this is what I would get, I expected and I got exactly what I knew I would  Cry A disappointing product. But all I can say is hopefully someone out there will deciper all the crap M$ put in FSX and make it run much smoother and start enhancing the sim without all the lag. The way I am seeing this game right now I don't want to imagine how much LAG LAG LAG I gotta deal with when i add a very high detail freeware scenery to it!  Lips Sealed

Do I actually like FSX? Shocked I like the way the scenery looks and the improvements on the animation part. But with so much stuff moving around the place it leaves me to wonder if that is what is causing all the lag I experience in the game  Cool

I think your ram needs an additional 1gb. Everything else is ok.

Ok M$ designed this product to work in the future, FSX will be a strong contendor even 3 years down the road. Most games only last a few months before their tossed aside. No machiene now is running it well without major tweeks and some performance hits. So add a gig of ram and you will be much happier, but you will still get lag. I have a AMD X2 4200+, 2gigs ram, and a 512mb nividia 7900GT graphics card and have trouble in large city areas.  Cheesy

You need as much Ram as you can get.  XP Pro w/SP2 takes 512mb itself, so as you can see a RAM upgrade would be the cheapest and best addition to help with FSX and you may just see other improvements in performance of your computer besides FSX!!   Grin

Give FSX some time.
I am running FSX on 2 comps, both the same processors (P4 3GHz), 1GB RAM on each, the only difference is my comp has ATI Radeon X600, Dad's (which i use more for fsx) has X850XT.  Both run well with mid settings.  I just can't wait til my dad upgrades the hardware on his (RAM Upgrade, GFX in the future when he gets Vista and DX10 cards).  Then I can fly high settings.
I am surprised at how well the game flies.  Although I only get 10fps around Manhattan, so i think i should turn down the desnsity of custom buildings.
It is a great game though, give it some time to mature.  Like good cheese.
Cheers,
Mark

Ok I will invests in some more RAM, but right now $$is very tight  Undecided. Might have to wait until next year when my TAX return check is sent to me. $$$$$$ Cool Then I will do some PC upgrading. But until that time I will just keep monitoring the sites to see what patches and fixes come out for FSX as well as addons!

Thanks for the suggestions guys!

Also check out the stickies at the top of this forum. With some texture downloads and tweaks a lot of the laggies can be left behind. I'm running a P4 2.8 GHZ, Asys P4P-800 SE MB, 1 Gig RAM and an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro with 256 MB. I'm getting around 15-20 FPS in moderately populated areas. Little stutter at large detailed airports but overall fairly good performance after a bunch of the tweaks.

The lag is a downer, but if you get FSX tweaked just right it is very managable, I run a realistic, target frame rate of 20 fps, and my frame rate stays around that.
I have installed 20+ aircraft from fs9 to fsx and all of them work fine, other than some not having a pic in the selection screen. The forums are full of suggestions on tweaks and things you can do to get your fs9 aircraft to work.
Hopefully Microsoft can address these issues soon.

I will check out those tweaks, When I get some free time tomorrow! I really don't have time to play around with my sim as much as I used to. That is why when I do have time to play around I get disappointed with its performance level. That is why I haven't gotten rid of FS9 yet. I am still flying her while I am tweaking FSX.

As soon as everything gets figured out with FSX they are going to release FSXI and with that release a whole new set of bugs that need to be fixed. You would think M$ does this on purpose because they must think we enjoy tweaking the sims every problems.
