GRIM REAPER
de Havilland
Mosquito Mk IV
AvHistory - Version-4.00.135
Gregory Pierson's Version 4.0 first released in August 2006 represents a complete update of the AvHistory 1% Assembly Line Process (1%ALP). Compared to our previous efforts, 4.0 is an order of magnitude improvement and a closer step towards our goal of producing aircraft that perform within 1% of the real aircraft. For additional info on Version-4 flight packages see the included AvHistory - Version-4 1%ALP text file.
AIRCRAFT BACKGROUND:
This aircraft was developed by AvHistory from a MS stock Mosquito. It has been skinned by Jimmy AKA JAYCEE as the Grim Reaper, tail number DK333 with squadron code HS*F. This plane was a Pathfinder using the Oboe system & various color marker flares.
It was flown by Flg. Off's Harry B Stephens and Frank Ruskell DFC members of 109Sqn, No 8 Group(PFF) based at RAF Wyton in Jan. 1943. Flg. Off Stephens was killed in action after Ruskell left the 109th in April, 1944.
Wyton has been a military airfield since 1916, when it was used for training by the Royal Flying Corps. In 1935 it was upgraded to contemporary standards. During World War II it was used primarily as a bomber base, flying Bristol Blenheim, de Havilland Mosquito and Avro Lancaster aircraft. In 1942 it became the home of the Pathfinder Force under the command of Group Captain Don Bennett.
The de Havilland Mosquito ("The Wooden Wonder," also known as "The Timber Terror") was a British combat aircraft that excelled in a number of roles during the Second World War. The Mosquito was a twin-engine aircraft, powered by a pair of Rolls-Royce Merlins with the pilot and navigator sitting side by side. Unorthodox in design, it used a plywood structure of spruce and balsa in a time when wooden construction was considered outdated.
The Mosquito was a very versatile aircraft. Its bomber variant could carry a bomb load of up to 4000lb at cruise speeds that made it difficult to intercept, while the fighter version had sufficient maneuverability to dogfight with single-engined aircraft.
The various roles of the Mosquito included tactical bomber, pathfinder, day or night fighter, fighter-bomber, intruder, maritime strike or photo reconnaissance aircraft. It served with the RAF and many other air forces both in the Second World War and postwar.
MAJOR LEAGUE WARNING from the install NOTES
NOTE 2: From the Mosquito Pilots Operations Handbook
"Open the throttle slowly, checking any tendency to swing by coarse use of the rudder and by
differential throttle movement. There is a tendency to swing if the engines are kept unsynchronized.
The travel of the throttle levers is very short for the power obtained. Coarse use of the throttles
will aggravate any tendency to swing."
Try this non differential throttle technique. Hit shift-L to unlock the tailwheel. That should
allow you to counter the swing with the tailwheel, this will take a LOT of finesse.
For those not comfortable with multi throttle procedures in CFS3 try differential braking instead during the takeoff run by tapping the ">" key when you start to get out of alignment.
The problem with the Mossie is the vertical tail is not in the slipstream between the props so
it's not effective at low speeds. Add the p-factor from the 2 x 12ft diameter props and it will swing.
As is usual please report any problems or issues to AvHistory 1% Squawks at
