Seems alot of people come in and complain about FSX alot...
So I figured that I would post a question regarding my opinion of the game.

So far, there is not anything I do not like about it...

The only real problem I have is trying NOT to play it while I am working from home.
I have my work laptop all set up, and my home computer right next to it.
More than a few times, I have had spreadsheets, and web pages and call tracking all on one, while I am flying over on the other...

So darned addictive...
And it looks good too.

I'll bet, then he will take over the flight, and you must find something else to do!

Your like me.  Work and fly at the same time Wink.  Normally id turn on the autopilot on a quiet jet or something while doing something else though.  Hey, productivity comes from a good atmostsphere right?

Cheers,
RB

I want an application, please.
I'm not sure about the 'work' part, but my qualifications include (but are not limited to);
FS98
FS2000
FS2004
FSX

I have plenty of experience and have no trouble going by the book. Although, I am also proficient at free lance type flights.

It must be nice, lol.

Today I uninstalled FS9 completely. The first month I was disappointed with FSX because it was not running as I expected and almost gave up on it. I knew my hardware was not the best but what I found out in the last 30 days about system tweaking and setting up the configuration file and sliders has given me an entire new outlook with this software!! Finding out how FSX will actually analyze and fine tune itself over hours of flying added yet another surprise which has made my sim run smoother as I continue to use the software.

I just installed another gig of memory and running 2 now. With that and the settings I am running along with the realistic flight dynamics I can't go back to FS9. I booted and ran FS9 for the last time yesterday, and it’s boring!! I can see all the changes made and how much less FS9 provides for realistic flight. I always knew FS9 was very limited with flight dynamics and FSX can still be improved but I just can not go back to FS9 after flying FSX over the last 2 weeks with such excellent results.

it took me LOADS of tweaking to get FSX to work  Tongue spent a couple hours doing it, but now that I got it figured out it's a pretty good game. First thig after getting it to work i took of from Lower Loon and flew to Boise(that's all in Idaho) in a piper cub, it was pretty exciting  Wink
Rather prettifull game if you ask me (though it does take forever to load)

I had really bad load times until NickN gave me a set of configuration file edits which included this one:

[Main]
DisablePreload=1

He said FSX loads the default flight automatically and no matter what you change it to, it has all that default flight information loaded. That tweak keeps the default flight from loading and releases the memory back to the system. That, in combination with the config file tweaks, dropped my load time by quite a bit.

He also said the only texture fix that should be done for lower end hardware is the autogen building reduction and the autogen tree layout change. He also mentioned those two are unnecessary if a 7900 series GPU is being run with a decent processor. Anything else in texture changes actually makes the sim run worse and will most likely force a complete reinstall of FSX when the patch is released. I have to say I was skeptical until I took his advice. I also did all the texture fixes and it made a mess of my sim. I could not be happier with the results I am getting. FSX by default looks better than FS9 with all the add-ons I was running like ultimate terrain and ground environment!

This simulation is going to get better and better as time goes on. What I am dissapointed about is all that money I spent on FS9 add-ons. They are all on a DVD disks now and will never be used again. The clouds, gound textures, autogen, its all far superior to anything I had in FS9 and when I see how much the aircraft require my real knowledge of flight, going back to FS9 is just not an option.

hey miltestpilot......is that "[Main]" entry you mentioned in the FSX.cfg file?? Just want to clarify there.

And i agree, FSX will get much better as some time goes on. I love it too and for me, the visual difference from FS9 and FSX is dramatic.

I agree.  I played FS9 for a bit... The last version before that was ages ago ( talking late 1980s).

I think the graphics rock.  With Vista and DX10 coming (whenever it gets here), it can only get better.

That is correct. What I listed is placed under the heading of [MAIN] in the configuration file.
