Probably should be in 'Real Aircraft' area too. BTW, isn't there a similar thread already in there? Ozzy should be along soon.

There was like a 20 page thread and NO ONE but me could pick just one.
If you ever are looking for a person with a TRULY favorite plane, look no further than your own Jakemaster (named Blue Man ATM, going to change names again soon). The DC-3 is my favorite and should be everyones favorite, simply the greatest aircraft ever made.

I picked the SEPECAT Jaguar as my #1. It was just closely followed by the EE Lightning and the F-4F Phantom II.

I do agree that the DC-3 is a great plane that has been around since the late 30s
but i just like the 747 because it's fast, has long range, and has had very few crashes in its history. Im also partial to the 757 and the 787. I say the 757 because it is a fuel efficiant plane with medium-long range. I say the 787 because it could easily cross the pond and will also be fast and fuel efficiant.

Ever since I was a kid (yes, before the movie Top Gun) I loved the (now retired) F14 Tomcat. I still do love the plane, but perhaps not with the same zeal I used to. Still, it's a craft with its own sort of menacing beauty, and in its day it was a technological marvel.
Today I take more notice of commercial aviation (despite working in the defense industry) and a ton of 737s fly out of my local airport, so I'm sorta a 737 fan if only due to seeing so many of the things. My favorite flight as a passenger has been aboard a 747, that was amazing.
But overall, I gotta say I'm an F22 fan because it represents such a leap forward and I have so much of my career personally invested in it. Not working on it right now but I've done a ton of work for that program and probably will do a ton more. Here's to hoping the Air Force goes through with the ground attack version!

Im sure that more people have died in 747 crashes than DC-3s....
I don't think you can pick a plane that hasn't been built yet, but it's up to you.

Only because the 747 carries more people.
And even then, the amount of crashes DC-3s have been involved in could well mean that more people have died in DC-3 accidents! Just look at how many there are in the 50s and 60s alone:

Jake, you are far too partisan to the DC-3. Let's face facts. The aircraft is primarily used as a cargo type, the 747 is a extremely large passenger jet, the difference in the numbers of people on board both are uncomparable. As for it still being airbourne today, yes it's a great achievement but, in all honesty, it doesn't do the most demanding tasks does it. Spitfires, Mustangs etc are still flying today and they are not much younger than the DC-3 except in their lives they have, and still do carried out a lot more stressful manoeuvres on the airframe, so surely that makes them as 'great' as the DC3?

I should think the numbers of DC3 related fatalities is comparable to the 747. Especially if you count the C47 with the DC3. How many people died in Dakota's during the war?

I don't know how this would reflect on the aircraft. I haven't done the math but it seems that most of the incidents and fatalities associated with the 747 are due to non-airplane related factors (pilot trying to take off from a runway and running in to another plane, terrorist bombs, shot down by the Soviets, etc). I'd assume if you count the C47 in with the DC3 then this may be true there as well, since the plane was probably shot down in combat. So one would have to do a lot of digging in to circumstances to figure out how many were actually killed by the plane and how many simply died in the plane due to other circumstances.

The Spruce Goose. I see it as one beautiful airplane of which there is only one. It's a classic. I wish it were modeled for FS2004. The eight engines could just be controlled as four, so no problem there...

My favorite Military Jet of all time would have to be the Su-37. Hands down, No contest. Amazing plane right there.
For Military Props, None better than the C-130. What can't you say about the Hercules?
For commercial jets I'd go with a 737. Just like it for some reason

+1 love the Su-37, such a amazing aircraft, so sleek. When I was young, I had a real taste for the B-26, my first real plastic model.
until it was lost.
In my opinion, every aircraft I like in a particular way. Some fav. include,
B-26
Concorde
F15/F22/F14
Kfir
any mirrage
Commercial,
B737-200
B747-200
DC9
and yes a Giles 202, which most people might now now is a aerobatic aircraft.
