I downloaded the entire set of the FSX Terrian Mesh from Simviation but have not loaded them yet. I would like you guys opinion. Also what does the 10M or 38m, etc. mean in relation to the scenery settings. Do I adjust them in accrordance with the :read me text" instructions?

From what I can tell, I believe it mean that the mesh is more smooth and accurate to within 10m or 38m of the real thing.

It has to do with how often the terrain is measured and rendered. With 76m mesh, an elevation is taken every 76m in a grid over the whole landscape, then those points are all connected to create a model of the landscape. With 10m mesh, the points are all much closer together, so the landscape is much more detailed.
To use them, you just copy and paste them into a folder called "scenery" you create and name in the "scenery" folder (a different scenery than before) in the "addon scenery" folder in the main FSX folder. The path should be "Microsoft Flight Simulator X/Addon Scenery/scenery/10m mesh/scenery, then past the .bgl files in the last "scenery" folder. Also, the "10m mesh" folder can be named whatever you want it to be named, as long as you know which one is which. After pasting it there, start FSX and from the main startup screen, go to "settings" then on the right in "other options", open "scenery library", the on the right again, click "add area", then a screen will open showing the main FSX folder, and all you have to do is scroll to addon scenery->scenery->10m mesh (or whatever you called it), then click OK. You should see a phrase in red at the scenery library screen, so click OK. Once you have done that, go to "customize" in the display settings box, and go to the scenery settings and move the "mesh resolution" slider to 10m, and it should work. This sounds really complicated but it's really easy, and really worth it. I haven't really noticed any performance loss with higher resolution mesh, so there is no reason not to do it.

Mobius: Thanks for the tip. I did the entire SRTM Mesh for FS9 preiously but I was not sure whether the procedure is the same for FSX. Need clarification. Your path sample in the thread was:
Microsoft Flight Simulator X/Addon Scenery/scenery/NAME/scenery/...bgl
Path I used in FS9 was:
Flight Simulator 9/Addon Scenery/NAME/scenery/...bgl
I noticed one extra "scenery" in your path. Is that required for FSX?

In my FSX there is a "scenery" and a "texture" folder in the "addon scenery" folder, and all my extra mesh is in that extra "scenery" folder, although I don't know if that's default or not. I assume the location of the actual folder is irrelevant, as long as FSX knows where to look for the .bgl files, don't quote me on that though.

I downloaded about 18 files and unzipped them. I noticed that some of the files are "related". For instance the bgl files USA9_... are in four different downloads. Can I combine them under one title?

There should be default Scenery & Texture subfolders in FS9\Addon Scenery so I suspect you deleted them yourself when installing scenery. The FS9\Addon Scenery folder is activated by default so any BGL files you install to the Addon Scenery\scenery subfolder are automatically read the next time you start FS9. (This is the recommended location for AFCAD BGL files). I assume it's the same in FSX. It's generally much better to install new scenery areas to their own directories within the Addon Scenery folder so you can manage them via the Scenery Library.

I don't see why not.
I can't check this out for you as I only have the FSX Demo. Not sure the mesh would work in that but it might be worth a try.

I put them in my main scenery/world/scenery folder.
I have a rather crappy vid card right now and I had no frame hits that I noticed, so if thats a concern, dont worry about it. It looks friggin' AWESOME to me
