Hi all,
I see there's a new freeware mesh to download here at Simviation, courtesy of Raimondo Taburet. Now, on his own site he has a 76m freeware mesh to download, so, is this the same mesh with a typo in the description or an actual improvement? I've downloaded it from fsproject once, I don't really want to download 400Mb or so again if it's the same thing. Does anyone out there know?
cheers
Chris

mmm... me thinks you should stick to the original - which is probably the same -- people get told things ...  Cool

Actually - if it IS 76 - Q is : Is the Stephen Rothlisberger 70M mesh compatible with FSX? - .

I'll contact Steve

Good Day;

The new srtm - is designed using the srtm version 2 - and J. DeFerranti elevation data - therefore is far better than any srtm mesh designed using the srtm models version 1 - where more artifacts are present on data - take also in consideration Johnathan did a great work in producing new and re-constructed srtm dem - those where not yet available when any version 1 srtm come out on the net - and this srtm mesh do included all data Johnathan have produced up to date.

all srtm mesh - is 76 m - - - - 70 m srtm mesh do not exhist ! as resample can not compile mesh files at 70 m - therefore the 30 head on this mesh is not actually correct as it is a 76 m srtm 3 version 2 mixed with J. De Ferranti models - this is the best combination of elevation models we currently have to design worldwide mesh  -- - 76 m up to lod 9  is the optimal resolution srtm mesh should be compiled unless srtm 30 m data are used - but those are only available for the usa - where we also have the ned models which are void of artifacts.

this new srtm mesh - is specifically designed for FS X - as it is different than the previous world coverage you have here at simviation -

FS X mesh is a new mesh that uses multilod and compression produced exclusively by the new fsx terrain resampler - to speed up the sim when loading mesh - as it includes all load in the mesh file therefore the sim do not have to use any of your cpu resources in order to display lower lod in the distance.

if you fly fsx - you are far better off using specifically designed fsx mesh - and forget the fs9 mesh designed mesh -
