Hi, is My Traffic X worth buying? I've seen a couple of screenshots and I'm not convinced.. can you tell me what you think of it; if you've got it that is.

Mees, not having a go at you but I don't see the relevance of this type of comment?

The question was about My Traffic X

further, (and I'm not defending any products here) if folks  post negative comments, I'd prefer to see them include some background and substantiation.

Your experience and desires in an Ai package could be very different from others.

Some may just want more carriors on display,
Some want accurate Flight plans
Most want performance i.e little fps hit.
Some want good support
Others want great addon tools
Customisation options
Good manuals
etc..

If you comment then feedback on these items may be important in helping others reach a decision on a product.

regards

Triton.

I think Mees' comment is pretty justified.... MyTraffic X is just an update to 2004 to make it compatible with FSX, so I would take his word for it, as they are both of the same.

The thing about MyTraffic is that it doesn't function like most other AI addons out there. Rather than using actual flightplans for and Airline. It randomly generates routes for these aircraft to fly, and so in your sim the traffic is far from realistic.... Just from looking at screenies from Simmarket the models seem to be poor, and textures of low quality...

Sorry but just my 2 cents,
Alex

Cheers guys, I guess I shall stick with Traffic 2005 for FSX; it's a decent product - I just hope JF fix the  "transparent" night textures of the aircrafts.

Are there any freeware programs out there atm for realistic traffic in FSX? Like PAI for example, but they haven't got FSX compatibility yet  Embarrassed

I have My Traffic X. (I won it from another site under the name KC-10) It is pretty good but it is not something that will stay on my sim forever. It has heli traffic, military and civil and it is good if you want AI quick.

All the payware traffic add-ons look like they suck. The aircraft just look plain terrible. They look worse than FS98 aircraft!!!!! Some of them even use freeware models!!!

BTW why do you say Adobe is illegal? They are freeware models. I wouldn't call it piracy since you can download all the models individually for free anyways.

I think payware add-ons using freeware models is worse, since they are actually making money from it.

Adobe is only 'strictly' illegal, because the author said that it was only available to Koreans...
Although this wasn't really enforced. As the download was available on the net. But the website was in Korean, and so out of about 20 files, no one knew which one to download. Someone who could read Korean, downloaded this and uploaded it to torrent servers. Also, but don't quote me on this, it was (apparently) uploaded to AVSIM, but quickly removed as it was challenging Payware companies, and they used this 'copyright' of it not being available to anyone other than Koreans to enforce it. Avsim buried any threads on it, and pretended it didn't exsist....  Roll Eyes

So, in conclusion... No, strictly speaking it isn't an 'illegal' addon. But you would be infringing on a copyright (that in all fairness I'm not sure exsists...? Rather that the Author demanded it was only available to Koreans.)
It's a great addon, and I would reccomend it to anyone looking for the most realistic AI pack out there. I had UT before, and it puts these payware companies to shame....

Cheesegrater its like that for one reason. FPS. If you had the most detailed aircraft as AI then your FPS would crawl  to about 3 FPS.
I admit that I like having detailed AI traffic models but for someone who just wants to escape from Soar, Pacifica, World Travel, Orbit etc. it is really good! As soon as I loaded it I went to Domodedovo (UUDD) and the gate was loaded with Ilyushins and Tupolevs. I took my first scheduled flight with it and had an RAAF C-130 nearly crush me when I was taking off.  Shocked All this within 15 minutes of installing.   Smiley

Yes, but they could still put more effort into the models. Using the defualt aircraft as AI traffic I get good frame rates. The payware models are like 10 times less detailed. Also, it is not bad enough the models are bad, the texturing is terrible too. They look like cartoon airplanes. AI Ardvark models are good though, they use LOD models. So they can have high detail, and high frame rates.

http://www.ai-aardvark.com/modeling/LOD_101/aia_LOD.html

This is the kind of effort I would expect from a payware add-on, but no...making models is too hard, and too boring. If the models look disgusting I don't care how realistic the traffic is, I'm not going to use it.
