Hi there,

FSInn the server software that´s beeing used by Vatsim and other major networks is now available to the public.
You can get it here.

This software is primary designed for ATC Flying.
It offers the follwing features.
1. You can link server together to make a server network
throughout the world
2. There is a Linux/Unix Version available.
3. You have an integrated radar screen.
4. You can link com-frequencies to Teamspeak Channels.
5. There are Low Poly aircraft packages available for
Airliners, GA, and Military Aircraft. Those are displayed
instead of highpoly original aircraft. (VATSIM users will
be familiar with this feature
6. The display of other users aircraft is much smoother
compared to the standard FS Multiplayer.
7. With FSCopilot (also available on their site) even
FS2004 Users can join as Co-Pilot.
8. You should be able to use VATSIM ATC Clients. Those
are more advanced than "ATC Radar Screen" (The only
freeware ATC Radar Screen I know for standard MP
Sessions).

This software offers a lot of features I was always dreaming about

We´re currently testing this software. To be honest
our first test yesterday wasn´t as successfull as expected.
But it´s a complex system... so it might take some time
until everything works as expected. If we get all these features running in the future.. we might offer this as additional service to our FSHost MP Server. But at the moment I don´t want to promise anything.

With more complex I mean, it´s a completely new system
new ports, new aircraft routing, new configuration, new clients.
For the User (FS2002/4, FSX) it would mean installing a client similar to the FSHostClient. The Rest is not really more complicated than any other MP Session. You just have a lot more options.
At least for the moment it looks like that

But we´ll have to make further test to see how it
finally works.

If we offer this service it will be a seperat server. The FSHost Server will of course stay as it is.
FSInn than would probabely mainly be used for ATC Sessions.

I got it working with a little help from Tweek and it wasn't particularly difficult to setup, and that's coming from me and my PC doesn't 'agree' with multiplayer!

Just one thing. Do you know if smoke systems are supported with FSInn? I'd see screenshots of the Patrouille de France Virtuelle on the FSInn site, and they appeared to be showing smoke.

It didn't work for me and Heathaze, though. Embarrassed

But I haven´t red anything about it. so I guess not.
As far as I remember the "Patroullie France" uses a special software called IBNetPlayer. I tried it once but the installation process appeard a bit to complicated because there was no real documentation and as far as I could research a lot of steps need to be taken to make it work. . So we never really got to any result.

Fortunately the new FSHost Client enables smoke systems
at least for FSX Users. For things like your airshows FSHost is probabely the best solution. FSInn has some advantages regarding the internal way Multiplayer Connections are handled. but I think it´s primary interresting for ATC Sessions.

@Heathaze.
As I just mentioned. FSinn has some advantages compared to the traditional FS Multiplayer.
Usually FS makes a peer to peer connection from one user to another. This means the Server is actually only responsible to link users together. That´s why open ports
are that important in traditional FS MP Sessions.
Every user also acts as Server.
If there´s one user who hasen´t configured his ports properly, other users are unable to connect. The advantage of this method: The server doesn´t produce much traffic. And nearly infinite connections are possible
(Not limitated by the server bandwith)

It appears (as far as I can judge) that FSInn uses a real
client server connection like most computer games nowadays do. This means you are always connected
just to the Server and not to other users. Because a
User doesn´t act as Server, no ports needs to be opened.
They only need to be opened on the Server itself.
The advantages of this method are way more stable connections and no more port issues. The disadvantages:
Because all the connections are handled directly through
the Server it will use way more ressources and much more bandwith as well. (we have some other game servers running on our machine... wich use this way of connections
and they produce up to 100 time more traffic than our Simvi Server). Also the connection quality and number of connected players depends on the Bandwith of the Server.

might be worth taking a closer look !!

@Flymo: FSHostClient Beta 3 offers a lot of new features similar to FSInn like linking to Teamspeak channels,
A much smoother display of aircrafts, animated surfaces like flaps, airbrakes, canopy and others. It also supports smoke systems !! Unfortunaly all these features only work for FSX Users.

Great after Studying it before I find out that it went to FSX instead FS9 folder ,I finaly got it.

I DON'T UNDESTANTAND THIS SOFTWARE AT ALL Grin

regarding smoke systems and full animations on other aircrafts their is onyl one client i know of and thats the IBnet client from birdsoft i think. its very very good but if you have a router you have to open ports and things.

I tried it and is horrendous; perhaps would be interesting to have a go & master it, with TONS of help I might add.

BUT really........
Using the present Sam's system is reminiscent of flying in the 50s, happy go lucky, in skies free and easy from ATC restrictions and traffic, and now this FSinn full of restrictions, laws and b....s....t plus all the other modern equipment complecations, like todays real world flying.

Could please, the ones who wish so, be able to stick to the present system, and let the others go their way?

I trust you gave the manual a read through, which does make it very simple! Wink

As for all the rules, only on certain networks such as VATSIM. There are servers which are free for all, such as the FSFBT server.

We had a FSInn server running for tests during the weekend.
For the moment we will not offer this service for several reasons.

1. The software did not run as expected for every User.
In my case I installed FSInn for FS2004 and FSX.
With FSX I could connect without a problem. With FS2004 the
connection options were missing.
The same happend to two other Users who were using FSX.
So some people were not able to connect at all.
We searched their forums. It looks like other people have these problems, too.

2. xabbu and me were finally able to get onto the server with FSX.
The implementation into FSX seems to be in a quite early stage.
You have to assign an aircraft to each player or he will not show up.
This would be a great feature but you only have 3 default aircraft
to select from. The so called VIP low-poly aircraft packages from their website
also don´t seem to work with FSX, yet.
These problems probabely only apply to FSX. But because of the problems described above,
we were not able to test with FS2004 Roll Eyes

3. The FSinn software blocks multiplayer connections to FSHost or FS Default Multiplayer Sessions !!!!!! Exclaim

After the installation, FSinn it will start two task automatically when Flightsim is started. FSFDT and Ai-Bridge
You can find them in lower right corner of your taskbar. As long as these tasks are running you
will run into the same problems that usually appear when you do not open your ports. That means
you´ll get a "not all players are able to connect message" when trying to join a session. Or even worse,
you can connect but others are unable to connect. So if you are connecting to our FSHost Server (or any other
Multiplayer Session) and you have FSInn/FSCoPilot installed make sure the two task are closed !!!!

In general it´s still an interresting software. We´ll keep an eye on it.
For events like tours,airshows or just for fun flying I think FSHost is still the best solution.
Also for smaller ATC Events it offers everything needed, like Com linked to Teamspeak,
ATClient (Radar Screen 5), and the rest is upto the Pilots and Controllers to make it as real as it gets.
The latest FShost/FSHost Client Versions made major steps ahead.
Primary for FSX users.. but that will be the main platform in the next years anyway.
You have smokesystem support now, a lot more controlsurface animations
(more to come.. it´s still a beta version at the moment), smoother display of aircrafts,
Com Frequencies linked to Teamspeak. And you can "route" aircrafts with the planes.txt file.
And i´m sure a lot of more things will be implemented in the future...

reading what sam has written thier looks like FSFDT have changed their product significantly for FS2004 which sucks, when i started useing it, FSINN was basicly a brilliant add on MP client for virtualy lag fre flying, now its blockng fshost server that sucks!!! im sticking with default if thats the case.
