Hi,
Is it possible to have two altimeters display in the same panel?
Would they have to be from the same source, or could they be (ideally) separately fed (to simulate real world)?

It is possible. The only way you'd be able to get them to give seperate readings is if one is a standard altimeter and the other was a radar altimeter giving you height above the terrain rather than altitude.
There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

I have tried adding a new gauge line in the panel.cfg, using both the existing altimeter and a different one, but the gauge doesn't show up.
As you say "It is possible." could you elaborate please?

If you want 2 or more of the same gauge on a panel first take a copy of the gauge & rename it. Then use the renamed gauge for the duplicate. Repeat this as much as you like.

Ah, ok that makes sense I'll try that... thks.
I really wanted the alts to be different though... is there any reason that can't work?
I've tried before, but maybe I've made a silly error somewhere, I'll have another go...

No reason you can't use two completely different altimeter gauges if you wish. I suspect they will both read ths same though.

After a re-look, I realised I had the wrong syntax
Good idea to rename the gauges, saving confusion.
I had forgotten also that my panel had a floating radio stack, so my missing gauges were simply hidden
Ta for ya help guys,

Also, check one of the default FSX aircraft.cfg files.
You'll see a new specification there that allows for independantly
operated altimeters. There's also mention of this in the SDK.
[altimeters]
altimeter.0=1
altimeter.1=1

Interesting but I think this is for FS9.
