because much like air bases that have been there 60 years, people who've lived nearby think that 2 years of residence allows them rights to complain.

Same here we use Bristol for our holidays and I go spotting there.

Great, another regional airport wanting to get bigger.

The results: Yet greater demands for controlled airspace in an already crowded southern England (IIRC, Bristol's just had a large chunk added to it's CTZ - and for another example look at the chunk that Newcastle's just had to the south of its CTZ), restricting the activities of both private flyers (well, I expect they'd be finding a new airfield as GA traffic and 12.5m pax probably don't mix - see what happened to the GA at Southampton) and the several military establishments in the area.

Not a great idea I'm afraid. Money to the shareholders, but for the flyer, nothing to get excited about, and potentially a lot to worry about.
