I wish to tranfer FS9 gauge and sound files to FSX but I don't want to mix them up with the original FSX files. Anyway this can be done? What will be the consequences if I simply transfer all my FS9 gauge and sound files to the FSX gauge and sound folders? Just need to increase my FSX aircraft inventory and I am not too sure about the transfer. Help?

Currently, I Know that FS9, gauges (not xml), sound are not compatible with FSX, so it will most likely not work. Cry

I don't think that's correct. It applies only to early FS98 gauges. Most of the FS9 GAU files I've tried work in FSX. Sound files appear to work fine but should be kept in their respective Sound folders. IMHO

The best way round this is to paste 3rd party gauges into the Panel folders of the aircraft they belong to. If you paste them into FSX\Gauges be very careful not to overwrite existing gauges or use gauges in different formats with the same file prefxes.

I believe what your saying Hagar, though when FS9 gauges load in FSX, there are all sort of error messages which appear and ask whether you want to load those file's or not. Some are and some aren't, that's why I stated that they might not work 100%. The FS9 sound files, I found not to work, because while loading it in the default aircraft directory, there wouldn't be any sound that could be heard. Wink

That's partly true but unless you get a message saying the gauges are FS98-style incompatible files they appear to work fine in FSX, both on 2D panels & DVC. You will only get the acceptance message on first selecting the aircraft. This applies to 3rd party & FS9 default GAU files, for example f4u1a_corsair.gau. Check this out. http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=screen;action=display;num=...

Except for those with aliased sound I've not had any problems with the sound files of FS9 aircraft in FSX. The Bf 109E in the above topic has its own sound files which work perfectly.
