Noticed at the big SimV airshow Saturday (my first big MP gathering) that I was only hearing the cockpit environment sounds from the other aircraft, not the sound one would hear in Spot view.
Is this "just the way it is" in MP, or do I need to change something?

When I am seated in my aircraft I hear my cockpit sounds and my engine sounds.

If I shut my engines down, I hear the nearby aircraft's engines, (if they are running).

If I move outside of my aircraft I hear my engine sounds, (if they are running), and as I move (Yaw) around the area I hear the other aircraft's engine sounds, (if they are running).

Zooming into them makes the sounds louder, and panning around varies the intensity of the sounds.

Paul...I like sounds... Grin...!

I am even more confused-ed than before... I'll have to investigate further.

It was almost as if my model's cockpit sounds were being triggered by the actions of other aircraft.
For example: during more than one display, I turned my sound way up to hear the other plane's engine, and only heard ambientcockpit noise. Then I'd hear gear or flaps cycle as if I was inside the other aircraft...but the Paper Airplane is builton the Schweizer, which has slats but no gear or flaps...???

Or maybe I remember it wrong... LOL.

Rotty....

..an over-indulgence in Multiplayer activities can very quickly lead to hallucinations, and a belief that there are sounds inside your head, forcing you to believe in supernatural occurrences....

Hopefully, in time, the experience will reduce in intensity, and you will be able to ignore the extra-celestial sounds in your head, and carry out normal flight, like the rest of us....
...trust me... Wink...!

Maybe sometime over this weekend a few of us can meet up on the Great Server in the Sky and help me exorcise these gremlins... Grin

Tee-Hee...Grin...!

The only bind with solo Multiplayer flight, I find, is that you can no longer contact Air Traffic Control via the Sim....
...it gets very quiet up there....
..apart from the engine noise...

...and mysterious sounds revolving in your head... Embarrassed...?

LOL... Grin...!

Yes, it gets old pretty quick. Although I can generally do without ATC, as in real life... I like being alone with the wind and the engine and... well, the noises in my head (they tend to leave me alone eventually... Grin ).
But I'm still struck by the novelty of flying in world-wide cyberspace... remember; I was born into a household with a black-and-white TV... Grin

I might just make a quick hop there right now...Grin

What I tend to not like in multiplayer is not having people using Teamspeak when it is available and relying on the chatbox for all communications.

In my opinion there is nothing more distracting and unrealistic than typing in order to to communicate while flying.

Teamspeak is SO easy to set up and use...and is FREE..... it is a shame that people on Sam's server don't tend to use it very often.  If ther is no ATC, announcing intentions by voice is SO MUCH more realistic than typing it.  Most of the time..... normal "all traffic" commuincations end up not getting done.

Yes... it gets very quiet up there.  An I too like the "flying in cyberspace" aspects of online versus in the sim itself.

best,

......john
