I'm sure it's been asked before, but please just bare with me.

I saw the final system requirements and I'm sure that's just the bare minimums to run it. My question is how will it run on the minimums? I know it won't run anywhere near maxed out, but will it look and run better than flight sim 04? Right now I can run FS 04 with everything almost maxed out and it runs great. I don't want to upgrade to X and have it look and run worse than 04. What's the point then?

With that said, I'd like to upgrade my PC in the near future. How does the Duel core e6600 2.4ghz processor with the Nvidea 7950gtx video card sound? I'd couple it with a 250GB hard drive and probably 2 GB of memory. I'll have it custom built since I really don't want to invest more than $1,000 into it to just run FS. I'd have a friend install Windows Vista on it when it comes out. Will this set up be good enough to run it better than FS 04 and will this set up be something that will run X with a lot of features turned on? I don't want to buy a few thousand dollar pc just to run one video game on.

I'm sorry for asking questions that were probably already asked and I appreciate any feedback. Thanks guys!

It's not worth upgrading at the momemt. The transition to Vista will be starting in January closely followed by the next version of DirectX (which is only for Vista) all this will be followed by DX10 compatible hardware and as FSX is optimised to run on Vista and DX10......

.............i'd wait till next year and Vista with DX10 are up and running then consider a new machine with all the latest hardware.

I really appreciate the replys, especially since I don't know a heck of a lot about PCs.

The computer I planned on building said it was Windows Vista ready (I'm thinking of just bighting the bullet and getting a Dell). Are you guys also saying that just because it's Vista compatible that the hardware might not be DX10 compatible? If i find out it is compatible, will it be as simple as a driver upgrade for DX10 or no? I'm not a very patient person haha.

Once again, thanks a lot for the help. I probably would have ordered a PC today if I didn't have this information.

duel = dual noted Wink

I'd just wait a few months ....... and don't go for the Dell. The component most affected by DX10 will be the graphics card  and there are NO DX10 compatable cards at the moment.

Ok... one last thought.

I'm very close to being stubborn and upgrading now to this:

Dell XPS 410
Intel core 2 duo e6600 2.4ghz
Windows XP Media with a free upgrade to Vista
2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz - 2 DIMMs
320GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s Hard Drive (7200RPM)
256MB nVidia Geforce 7300LE TurboCache
$1150

I would then purchase a DX10 compatible video card (probably the 8800 gtx) in the future when vista comes out. How does this sound? I talked to a Dell tech and they told me the only component that would be affected by DX10 would be the video card. So I would just upgrade in the future.

skysurfer2010, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooo, don't buy a Dell or a 7300LE.

Dell is terrible, there support is bad, and they have bad upgradability.

The 7300LE is really bad, wait till Direct X 10 AND the Radeon X2k series are out before upgrading. Trust me, you'll have a much better system of cheaper if you do that.

turbocache eh? that means you'll have 1.6gb of ram.... I KNOW I HAVE ONE.... *Kicking self every day for it* Sorry for my little rant..... but a 7300LE isnt worth it, buy a 6800 PCI-E if you want cheap performance until you get a DX10 card.... I'd think you should get a 7600 until DX10 if thats the route you want..... that 7300LE is fanless, takes 400MB of your system ram.... and drives you nuts trust me, and its not good for anything really!

Gunny (I was better off with the built in 6100)
