I've done a few searches but can't find any mention of TrackIR here!

Basically I can't get my TrackIR 4 to function in FSX and I've uploaded the latest drivers too! Anyone know where I might be going wrong?  ???

Thanks in advance!

Did you do the tweak that prioritizes FSX as 'High'?  If so, other programs will usually only work intermittently.  Otherwise, I would mess around with the profiles for your TrackIR.

TrackIR is designed to run in the background and works well in FS9 and other games with TIR support.

I've got the latest drivers, checked for all options etc. even done a repair of my FSX installation but this device still does not function in this new sim.  Angry

I'm surprised that no one in these forums has thrown something usefull at me yet! Is there anyone else here with FSX and TIR4?

Thanks again in advance!  Smiley

I did throw something useful at you, but you never said whether or not you ran it on high priority, becuase if you do, FSX will always use any resources it needs, whether or not TrackIR is using them.  Even though TrackIR is designed to run in the background, it requires memory, and CPU resources to run, and if FSX is using most or all of these resources, TrackIR will not run.

If that doesn't work, open up TrackIR and check to make sure that your profiles are set up correctly for FSX.  See if you have FSX set to the profile that you normally use, otherwise your normal hotkeys may be different and might not work.

Otherwise, you'll have to tell us more about your problem.  Is your TrackIR plugged in?  Is there a light source or reflective material behind you that would wash out the dot reflection?  Do you still have a dot, or did it accidentally fall off?  You'll have to tell us more specifics, because I can get my TrackIR to work just fine.

If you're unhappy with the help here, try http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/ , becuase they are the TrackIR site, and we are an FS site.

I hope that was useful, because apparently my advice before was just useless c**p. Roll Eyes

With your TIR screenup go to help and check for Game Updates. You should then see in your profile list a premade profile for FSX try it and see what happens.

I don't have my TIR installed currently so can't test it myself but will try later today.

Edit: I use TIR3, not sure if there is a difference or not.

Hey, no need to get all stropy on me! I was not having a bash at your post!  Kiss

Explain to me first how to run it (and presumably you mean TIR) on high priority and I will give it a shot!

Like I said I have all the latest updates and games supported and have selected FSX in the profiles etc. Yes the blue light shows on the TIR unit so it IS active and (like I said) works fine in FS9.

I have also already visited TIR's website and am currently waiting for a reply from them too.

Oh, and TIR4 does not have a sticky dot like TR3 instead it uses a clip with reflectors!  Wink It seems like it might be some FSX software teething trouble, because I am apparently not the only one with this problem according to the TIR forums! I hope it can be resolved!

I just thought I would post it here to see whether there has been a workaround yet!  Smiley

No problem, sorry I got jumpy, were all friends here. Kiss Grin

I was referring to a tweak posted here a couple of weeks ago that causes your system to run FSX as the highest priority program on your computer, meaning it uses all the resources it needs first, then other programs, including TrackIR are later in line.  So if you have all your resources used on FSX, there are none to use for TrackIR, so it doesn't work.  This is the exact problem I have, I run FSX on high priority, and I get excellent performance, but TrackIR or media player don't work while I'm flying, but if I run FSX on regular priority, I get lower performance, but I can use TrackIR, or play music while I fly.  I was just curious if that might be your problem, but that doesn't sound like it is.

TIR4 works perfectly in FSX on my computer... have you installed the software Version 4.1.029 alpha 3 and updated the game support file from the help menu?
It won't work with the 4.1.028 software!

Yep, I already did both of those things! I have the 029 alpha 3 and have got the most up-to-date games list showing FSX in the list.

This is really strange if you can get it to work but I cannot!  Angry  What profile do you use in TIR (Flight/default etc.) ? Is your game installed on Drive C (your master drive) or on a slave drive such as D or E like mine? This shouldn't make any difference as most of my games including FS9 are on a slave drive, but I am stabbing in the dark here trying to work out why some of us can get TIR4 to work in FSX and others cannot!

I'm still waiting for a response from Natural Point and will post any information here if I get it!  Sad

I have the same drivers installed. running on the deluxe version FSX. Its works for me. I use the regular flight profile. make sure you select the profile you want to use and click edit make sure everythings ok in the head/guages/IR windows and then click ok and minimize and run FSX. when you run FSX notice if the lights on the TIR itself come on. like the 4 red lights (for IR tracking), the green (for power?), and finally when playing should be the blue light (for enhanced mode).
while starting up these lights will flicker as they adjust to being loaded up for fsx. let us know if none of this is happening. But what im wondering is if TIR4 works before you use FSX? either in another game or the properties page?

Thanks omar777!

I also am running the deluxe edition of FSX and yes I check that TIR is already working before I go into the game (tracking/heads etc.) then I minimise or just leave it up before starting FSX. I was also switching between FS9 and FSX this evening (GMT) and everything works fine in FS9 but NOTHING in FSX, the blue light show that’s all!

I've tried disabling my Mcafee Firewall in favour of the Windows one as I read in the TIR forums that someone was having issues with TIR4 and firewalls, but this made no difference either! ... Totally stumped I tell ya!  ???

hmmm, yeah, thats so weird. Well, if you have exhausted every possibility with no improvment, might as well uninstall both TIR4 and FSX and reinstall them. start with TIR4 first. install the right drivers for FSX for it. then install FSX. Hopefully this works! let us know what happens.

I recall with my TIR 3 having issues when starting IL2. And to rectify it would take unplugging the TIR unit and plugging it back and starting it up. May be a USB issue.

Thanks for your replies! Natural Point have asked me to uninstall my McAfee internet security and try FSX again for testing purposes! This frightens me and wonder weather it is worth both the hassle (it takes ages to install and UPDATE virus software esp. McAfee) and the risk!

It does seem like some sort of compatibility issue though and we all know virus software can be troublesome! Does anyone else here use McAfee Internet Security 2006? Surely disabling the software should be good enough for testing?  ??? Argh well I think this is proofing more trouble than it is worth and almost feel like just waiting until some fixes come out either with TIR or FSX! Shame though as I am enjoying all the new scenery!  Angry
