hello all. its been a long time since ive been on the forums.

just trying to gather some opinions of how well fsx would run on my pc as it is right now.

SPECS:
2.4 GHZ intel pentium 4
1.25 GB RAM
60 GB Hard Drive (with sufficient space for fsx)
ATI Radeon X700 Pro 256 MB

basically, tell me how you guys think fsx would run with the specs listed above. i really dont want to upgrade anything at the moment.
if any other info is needed, let me know.

thanks in advance.

Honestly?

If you expect to see any eye candy and have smooth flight.. no, that system will not even come close.

2GB of high speed memory (3-4 when VISTA arrives)
7900GTX 512 or above
A64 3700+ processor or above (dual core for VISTA will enhance experience)
SATA hard drive, or above

Ahhhhhh  Alrot.. I'm sorry, I did not mean to discourage you!

His system will run FS9 with eye candy but FSX takes a bit more... and after the DX10 cards are out I think you will find the 7900GTX and equal cards will come down in price quite a bit.

If you can find electricity under a bridge, IMO that wouldn't be such a bad option! Grin Grin Grin

The highest I get with a P4 3.4 GHz and 2.87 G ram, is 21 fps and that's way up or low in less dense areas.  If I start out at DFW/JFK/MIA the frames start out around 10.  FLL, around 14.   Once I gain some altitude the frames go up to 21.  It's still smooth, thank goodness, but not anything to get excited about.

Best bet is to just save your money and build a really core 2 rig when Vista and the (tested and reviewed) DX10 cards come out.

It'll be like getting a whole new FS along with your new computer.

Can't you more simply sell FSX to someone who is wants to spend, spend, spend, spend, spend, and then spend again? ???

I reckon it would be easier on you and your dears to have a roof on your communal heads instead of having FSX working on a new COSTLY rig in the middle of the streets? Wouldn't it? Grin

Think only of the difficulties you'll have in finding a power socket to plug your rig in or a net connection while in the streets. Roll Eyes

That's the 'minimum' I would suggest... the one I am putting together for full (or as close as possible) FSX ability will run around 2-3 3-4 grand.. home built and will probably be outdated in about a year...

Why not download the demo version and see what it will be like?  It will give you at least an idea how it will work (or not ) on your system.  I have a dual core 4800 amd and 2 gig of ram and a 7900gt video card new misi diamond plus motherboard, and with the sliders about half, get just under 20 fps.  I need about and hour or two of tweaking, and maybe I will hit the twenties consistantly.  Good luck, but download the lastest demo form Microsofts site.

I dunno if it will help but on my system I have the sim running fairly nice at 20 fps (except when over cities like L. A. Then it drops about an average of 5 fps). Even have the autogen up at the second position. I had to sacrifice water effects and have it at the lowest setting, but then I have auto trafic at 50%, commercial ai at 50%, GA traffic at 25%, airport vehicles at 50%, boats and ships at 10%.

I've done most of the tweeks and have this:

Del Dim 9100 Pent D 820
it's only a 2.8 Gig
3.5 GBs of pc4200 Ram
nVidia 6800 ultra 256

I'm guessing it's all the ram helping to run it better being a relatively slow processor. But ram is a pretty cheap upgrade over buying  5 or $600 super video card.
