So my computer isn't the newest thing on the market, but has typically performed above and beyond (specs at end).  I can run the FSX Demo on High/Med. High Graphics settings across the board with about 40 fps up in the air, about 17-18 fps on final approach and 12-20 fps while taxing around the gates.  So here's the question, how will the full game run?  Does it perform similar to the demo, or would I have to significantly turn down the graphics settings to run it smoothly (as a standard, I'm satisfied with the demo's performance)?  And the reason I am concerned about not having much to spare in the performance department (i.e., my computer specs):

ASUS A8N Premium Motherboard
64 bit AMD 2.0 GHz
1 GB DDR400 RAM
NVidia 6600GT, 128 MB RAM
Good old basic IDE HD

Thanks for your input.
Eric

The full vers will most likely run much slower on your sys.

The main reson being, the demo was very limited in the things that will bog down  FSX

The demo did no contain any lage cities, only very  limited reidential ares.
It also did not have to deal with much air traffic, etc.

Yes you can dumb down the graphics, etc and find the right combos of  graphic levels and traffic for your sys.
However the levels will most likely be lower than you experience in the demo.

BTY, most people with a high end sys (including me) consider  themselves lucky getting 15fps with acceptable graphics which will be far from maxing anything out.

I think it would run the same or worse.

A graphics card upgrade would improve your performance. Although it would be nowhere near as good as FS9. I tried the FSX demo on a 6600GT and I thought it was unplayable. A 7900GS would be nice.

I don't think you can predict this without testing.  Reason why is one of the last tasks that are performed are tweaking for performance.  It's possible the demo may or may not have been tweaked for performance.  You just don't know until you test it out, or someone who has chimes in.

I had great performance on the demo (14-20 FPS on High settings) and that was before I added another gig of RAM to my system.

Once I got the retail I noticed a huge difference in performace...down in the dirt (4-12) on the same settings I used on the demo and with the new gig.  Needless to say I was pretty surprised and I expected to run the retail at the same level as I had been with the demo.

I was ready to shelf FSX and then I started doing all the tweaking...now I don't think I could ever go back to FS9.  I am enjoying the hell out of FSX on High setting and getting a respectable 17-30 over all areas on my low-midrange system.

2 GB PC2700 RAM
256MB Geforce 7800 GS OC

Looking at your specs I would suggest a new video card for sure and maybe another gig of RAM to get FSX to look decent and perform "well".

So to answer your question the retail will run worse for you than the demo...but it's all up to what you can live with and what your happy with on settings.

Nice to know what is considered a " Low mid-range system" for FSX.   Wink

Compare that to the published (before you buy it) "minimum specifications" on the box.  Tongue
