Gloucester......ahhhh Gloucester (Read 1351 times)

Glad to say that Andy Francis's Gloucester scenery (one of the prettiest town sceneries you'll ever come across Wink ) looks more beautiful in FSX than it did even in 04 (remember - it was made in all GMax). Unfortunately the water doesn't now line up so the canal and boat basin are now empty.

However, don't let that dissuade you from installing it. Let's hope Andy manages to update it soon.

I've also found that Richard Maxted's FS02 Sherburn that worked well in 04 with a new AFCAD works great in FSX with the same AFCAD.

Some nice surprises...

Just because Brett's got engine failure with an almost empty fuel tank doen't mean that FSX is that realistic. That's just being silly....

I could be wrong but don't know of any tidal canals in the UK. The one we're discussing certainly isn't. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herefordshire_and_Gloucestershire_Canal

I was under the impression that the whole point of a canal was that you avoided rivers, currents and tides and could get to places previously inaccesable by boat.
I've never heard of a canal anywhere that is affected by the tide.

I've never looked into it.. But seeing as either side of the Panama Canal are at sea level.. the tides probably have some effect ?

** geez... now I have to go to a grammar site and look up the difference between "affect" and "effect" ..  it's too early for that  Smiley

Except for the six(?) monstrous great locks required to get you over the mountains in the middle and down the other side.

Sure there's tide before you enter and after you exit the first and last lock, but intill you've gone through the first lock you're not really in the canal.

Hardly as the Panama Canal consists of two artificial lakes, several improved and artificial channels, and three sets of locks. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panama_Canal

The Suez Canal is at sea level for its whole length & has no locks. It is therefore presumably a tidal canal.

Except that the Med, and presumably the Red sea are non tidal.

Just looked it up, the Red Sea has tides that usually don't exceed a metre. The Med is about the same.

Edit, you could be assured that if the seas at each end of the Suez canal did have significant tides, then there would be a lock at each end of the canal to keep the water there when the tide is out.
