I may have missed postings about this, but if not - Microsoft is offering updates for 9c: "DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer." Has anyone tried it, and has it made any detectable difference? Any snags?

For some reason Direct X has always been a problem for me. When I went out and bought my FS2004, on the install it said it could not detect Direct X, so I tried to reinstall 9.0c, but it still said it. Failing that I tried a complete un-install, deleteing registry keys etc. then trying to reinstall. Well 9.0c would not install, I tried and tried, so in the end im stuck with 9.0b. Turns out it was a problem with the disks aswell! Microsoft sent me a replace ment and it was fine... grrr. And there are alot of programmes I can't run without 9.0c  Embarrassed

Ahh well, life goes on..

BTW, if anyone knows of a way to actually install 9.0c! Give me a bell! Cheers... (and please, no obvious ones, I've downloaded all the different wrappers, tried web installer and the full one... The only way I got it to work in the end was a trick I found by switching the .exe's around...)

FSX should install DX9.0c by default. There should be no need to do it separately. In my experience all MS programs install the version of DX they need to run.

No snags.. I run it once every 3 months to update DX and it works fine. Most updates are minor and will have little or no impact on the system but some incorporate important fixes and also software to run, such as 3Dmark 06 which requires the December 05 DX9 update or it will not run correctly.

What DirectX version does everyone have - I know it's 9.0c, but in my DXDiag it shows 9.0c(4.09.0000.0904) for the version. I was just wondering if that was the same for everyone . . . or, anyone.

Fixed it! Cheesy Turns out that on some computers (dont know why) the Direct X installer doesnt alter the registry values... So I had 9.0c installed the whole time!

In answer to JaSe's question, yes, that is the right value...  Grin

Thanks for that bit of info. I had noticed the latest download for DirectX 9.0c showed a release date of August of this year, and thought the FSX installed version might be newer.
