Hello Lads...!

...just a little query... Wink...!

How do you know when you are approaching the Monthly limit on Broadband downloads, specified by your Service Provider...?

I don't download large music/video/film, etc, files, but I'm curious to know if there is a way to view the Broadband download file size, used or remaining, which is allowed by your Service Provider...?

Cheers all...Wink...!

Paul...ever so curious... Wink...!

Note that if you exceed your allowance, you get your bum smacked by your ISP....
...in the nicest possible way... of course!....Tongue....Wink... Grin...!

Paul ......... unfortunately no ........ and they can't even provide you with the details if you do go over. You just get a threatening letter saying cut back or pay more.

I've already had the arguement with Wanadoo/Orange. I love the way they don't have to provide any evidence you just have to go on their say so ....... and they don't provide any way of checking your own usage.

Hi eno....!

Ta for the explanation...Wink...!

It's strange that our Service Provider has a means of logging and storing our download usage, but we are not able to access it via their Web page, using our log-in Name and Password.....!
...I wonder why....  Shocked...?

Paul...Freeserve.... 8)...!

To be fair, 2gb is quite a lot even when that includes what goes in your temp internet folder. You'll probably find that some of the "unlimited" service providers just set a limit that they don't expect the average user to reach. But if you consistently download several gb of data every month they'll soon get in touch with you.

Paul... go with BT! No download limit, and you only pay for your contract, not speed. So you could get 8mb for the same price as Mrs Bloggs whos getting 1mb!

And plus, if anything goes wrong, they own all the phonelines, so its all up to them, they cant blame anyone!

BT...?

Nothing comes for free...Wink...!
All their options have a download limit...!

I pay £15 total per month for my Freeserve Broadband connection with a line tested speed of 1.1 Mb/s and a Monthly download limit of 2 Gb...Grin...!

BT's cheapest Option 1 is £18 per month! for a speed (<8 Mb/s) which is not achievable...and they still have a 2GB download limit...!!

http://www.bt.com/broadband/bb_info.jsp?s_cid=con_ppc_zedmedia_google_broadband&...

Paul.... Grin...!

Speeds of up to 8 Mb/s are only available at a very few locations throughout the country...Wink...!

You could probably monitor bandwidth usage with some utility. I am not aware of any, but I see no reason why it can't be done. For $30, 2GB per month is terrible in my opinion.

Paul for a moment there i thought that you where still on good old dial up?

I'm with ntl at the moment on there 1mb connection for £17.99* a month with a now unlimited download limit (was 4gb a month), and its ideal for most people, and there customer support is very good aswell.

I'm on BT's cheapo package, with a supposed 2GB monthly limit.

Thus far, I have downloaded around 7 GB since September when I signed up with BT.

Not had a peep from them about my excessive useage!
