for widescreen users mr gates forgot to allow widescreen display, to fix this problem open your Fsx.cfg file and change the following in the display section

WideViewAspect=FALSE

to

WideViewAspect=True

it makes an improved visual difference if using a widescreen monitor

If this works I owe you a million! Thanks for the hint!

Gunny

Edit: This little edit makes my FSX run 15FPS all the time with the same settings as before.... Well I knew having a widescreen wouldnt be FS friendly, but this helped a lot!  Grin

Thanks for the tweak man! It really makes my life easier, Though I dont see any differences, other than the fact that my current settings run a little better, like its optimized for my weird resolution. It works, I'm happy!  Grin I had a little more time to play around in FSX to see how good it was.

Cheers, Gunny

Hmmm...  I tried this, and FS started crashing like a drunken Kennnedy after a party.  Smiley  I removed my fsx.cfg to let FS rebuild it and now that line is missing.

Also, why not just run it in a widescreen aspect ratio, such as 1440x900?

I'm running at 1400x900 and with the apect ratio set at false in the config file I can see a lot less, when i change it to true the view out of the 3d cockpit is greater, i think it makes a difference for the good.
Have a look at these two pics, the first one is with the widescreen ratio set at false and the second with it set at true, see how more of the cockpit is visible in the second one plus views to the left and right are greater

I don't see what's so different about that tweek as I can get the same effect as zooming out with a simple key command [-] or [+].

that may be so but these two pics were taken at .70 zoom, so there is a difference, otherwise with the widescreen set to false you may have to zoom out to .5 to get the same effect.

I was running 1440X900 and it worked, no stretches or anything, however my frame rates were in the dirt, now they seem more stable at 15FPS. If it was this tweak or something else, I dont know. But I think anything that specifically supports widescreen when you have one helps a lot. Now I could have left it 1440X900X32 but My resolution is 16:10 not 16:9 that may have something to do with it. Anyways I am happier, if I gained anything I dunno, it just seems I see more is all, maybe its an illusion.

Cheers, Gunny

I got it to work and it does seem to help quite a bit, though I am still tweaking...  Wink
