Hello Lads...

For the first time today I have tried to run FSX in Multiplayer mode.

First: I notice that there is now no option in the drop-down menu, while the game is up and running, for the Multiplayer choice... Shocked...!

It can only be accessed from the opening screen, which means shutting down the program if you already have it running, to go back to the opening screen....Buggar... Angry...!

Also: The default Multiplayer option insists on a connection to "Gamespy"  and requiring a Gamespy "Password", (No other option for alternative Servers)....... Angry...!

So.... no using either our own Sim V Server, of WS Pilots Server....arse.... Angry...!

Which means that I could not try out Multiplayer in FSX...naughty Mr Bill...!!

Paul... Roll Eyes...!

Ahh fozzer, you havent read everything you could. The FShost people are working on a program that will allow you do exactly what your saying  Grin  Its a standalone program and will allow connection to FShost, and it seems the Sim-V server.  Wink just need to be patient, FSX has only been out for a few days.

Hi BAW... Grin..!

You are ahead of me there, Mate..Wink...!

Why, the flippin' Norah, didn't Uncle Bill's motley design crew stick to the same simple method which is used in FS 2004....
...The Multiplayer Option in the drop-down, on-screen Menu, while the game is in progress, allowing any Server to participate in the connection... Shocked...?

At the moment, if you loose your connection whilst in the game, you have to close the game down and re-connect in the "Main opening screen Menu", and then re-load the game again....daft idea...Angry...!

So much for flippin' progress... Angry..!

LOL... Grin...!

Thanks for the link, Sam... Grin...!

Fascinating and informative reading...Wink...!

I just hope that the Mulitplayer connections can be made "within" the running game similar to the previous FS versions... Wink...!

I asked Russel that question...

If you get disconnected from the session for some reason will you have to close the Sim or do you just have to reconnect with your client program ?

I'm happy to report that you can just reconnect with the client program, you don't have to restart the sim.  There's a way that the client can detect that the sim's there, regardless of which program was started first, so it shouldn't matter.

Russell

cheers

Hi Sam...!

..the only trouble is, the option for Multiplayer connection no longer appears in the drop-down Menu, when the Sim is running, (like it does in the previous FS versions).

The program has to be "exited" and returned to the opening screen to connect to Multiplayer again, which means the program has to be restarted from scratch to return to the game...!

An example:
You have selected the scene, the flight sim is up and running.
You decide you want to connect to Multiplayer.
You now have to close the game down and return to the opening screen again to connect, then select the scene all over again to play on Multiplayer.
...all because the drop-down Multiplayer option no longer appears in the in-game menu...!

....or am I missing something...Wink...?

Cheers, Sam...!

Paul...8)...!

P.S. It seems that the programmers have left out many of the good points in the previous versions, (Like selecting your own ATC call sign, which is used by ATC,...and also appears on your fuselague)..!

<typo>..comma in the wrong place...Wink...!

You always can hit the "windows" key to get temporary back to the desktop (next to your "alt" key) or you can use the
key combination alt + uhmm donīt know how that key is
called ... the key left to the "Q" key that one with two arrows on it Smiley....to switch between running tasks.

Unfortunately this probabely will be the only way to
reconnect to a session.

I donīt know what extraordinary stupidity drove Microsoft
to skip the Multiplayer features inside FSX.  Roll Eyes
Russel also meant that Microsoft locked the developers out
of all Multiplayer features this time.
This is why he needs to write an external client.
When joining a Multiplayer (FSHost) Session you will be
in single Player Mode and that client grabs your Data
and send them to the other players !
The advantage. You will probabely be able to see
all the animations on other players aircraft... you will be able to see smokesystems... and stuff like that.

But .. hey .. we know MS long enough. We must expect
such Bulls...hoe.. remember 640kb will be enough for the next 1000
years.. Smiley

Ta for the reply, Sam...Wink...!

Got the news...

P.S. Mind you, without FS Navigator from Helge being available for FSX for a while, it looks like FS 2004 still being used for Multiplayer...Wink...!

Alright i did alot of MP last night and explored the CFG a little bit.

You can change aricraft in the middle of the flight, but the host mush enable that option. You can see animations and YES smoke, i saw it for myself ysterday.  Grin theres a few other things like shared cockpits, radios that as far as i can tell, you have to be on the same nav channel for it to work. Its pretty cool but yes, does have its downfalls.  Grin Grin

I have also spend some time in the multiplayer bit of FSX.
The good thing is that the iritating sounds from other peoples planes has been replaced with good sounding engine noise, with rev changes and all + propper helicopter sounds Smiley
I also like the inbuild voice communication , it seems to work very well most of the times.
Also lag seems to be very low too, last night i was on a server with about 20 people from all over the world and it all ran very very smooth. Cheesy
Smoke and possibly other effects are now vissible to others, this will spice up the airshows a lot Grin

Negative things:Who had the great idea to not allow any option changes during multiplayer, i cant even fidle with graphic settings ??? or open the map to see what direction a nice airfield is. Undecided these things will hopefully be back in when the first patch arrives Tongue

We had a flight of 4 extras last night in a diamond and it was smooth as silk....something that cannot be found in FS9.  It was a very enjoyable expericence!!

But, I must still practice for the SimV airshow in FS9 with the Raptor because yes, I want to make it awesome.

As i said the host must go into the advanced options and enable these. In the games i host i do allow you to edit and so on, still trying to figure out how to allow aircraft change in game however.

I bet FS Host will have some module that adds itself to the drop down bar like many of the FS9 modules

Interesting reading here.  Actually....more like depressing reading.  To me it seems like the more I read the more I think that in FSX Microsoft messed up every feature that I LIKED about fs2004 and "fixed" stuff that I could care less about.

Blocking developers out of the internal workings of the multiplayer aspects sounds to me like Microsoft has ior is working on some sort of financial "linkage" with online multiplayer hosting of some sort.

Oh well.

best,

I posted another thread about multiplayer but have yet to get a response.    Here's what I've found.   As the host of a session, I find that the drop down menu for changing "time and season", and also to change airplanes, is no longer possible for the host.  This is in both a Gamespy session and a session through LAN connect.   Those in the session, not the host, however can go to the "launch" page and change without having to go completely out of the session.   The host however does not have that option, but must completely shut down the session to change those options.  Strange indeed.  I've checked all "advanced" options, but none have been found to eliminate this.   Anyone have any help?

Best,
Horse
