I have been a member here for quite sometime, and it has not been such a great place for the past few months. It is not the majority, but the minority that have made this forum somewhat undelightful. The immaturity of some members is quite unbelievable. its it not even the younger kids here that are guilty. That is way I have, for the most part have stopped posting.  The screenshot contest, though good in its conception have become a prime place for this immaturity. Just look at some of the comments that have been made over the past contests. If you are now saying "what the heck is he talking about?!",  then you are likely one of the guilty ones. Pete has an idea what I am talking about, as I have IM'ed him in the past a few times about this sunject. I am not here bitching because I never win or even get in the finails. My shots are pretty good, but no match for the ones that win.
I will still visit from time to time as I get FSX and need information, but other than that dont really expect me to post much here anymore.
Chris

The only time I look at the screenshot contest is to see what the theme is and then to see who won. Other than that I stay away from it.

We get these posts every few months.

Guys, ESPECIALLY with the release of FSX, there's going to be a flood of really immature members.  Just ignore them.  There isn't any application that is submitted to join SimV, all you have to do is sign up.  The bad eggs are just naturally weeded out by the community, which goes on.

Like I said, I will still come around. Just wont post much. Screenshot contest you get people bickering about whether payware was used, that a screenshot is a copy of someone else's, etc... Someone post a link for a video they spent time making only to have people put it down, and yet the next video they see from someone else that's almost the same is awesome.

Yep, and over the past 5 years, I have seen some leave and never come back because the rude and malicious comments continue.
I belong to a forum, where there is no childish play, no immaturity, everybody is completely respectable and polite to all members, but yet a fun community to belong to. No, I am not going to tell you what and where it is because there are members here that would flame the crap out of me for even thinking about it

Well, I thought the same thing a few years ago and left. There was a lot of back-and forth stuff going on. But you can't stay away from a place which is oaverall basically a fun to place to be.
I usually check in just to read Fozzer's latest posts. It's usually funny stuff.  Grin

i agree with you to an extent here, there are a number of people who dont use this site for what it is meant to be, a community based on respect and overal fun. But with a forum of the size that it is, well over 20'000 now there is absolutely no chance in the world that you wont get any not so nice people on the forums.

Now with the release of FSX and the new forums it is going to be a slight down point in the history of the forums with an influx of members as Beef said, but i think that because of the overall community i think that the good members will eventually weed out the not so nice new member and accept those who are completely genuine and nice people, i just hope you stick around to see this through.

james

ps. i hope this doesnt happen to much, and i really hope no-one does leave here because of it.

Same here. I don't have the time to look at each individual entry nowadays, and think it would be unfair to just look at those of more regular members as one inevitably does.

I occasionally look at the shots taken by members with a record of taking impressive pictures, provided they're on the first page.

Well we did have a theme of trying to reduce 'sillyness' some time back.....

Rudeness is outlawed & pettyness is always discouraged.

The problem is it's difficult to draw the line & still maintian an  attitude of free thought & open-ness. Just where do you draw the line without risking becoming a site that takes itself too seriously?

I see only a fraction of posts but there have been one or 2 where I thought a good thread was being brought down by silly posts..... kinda kills it for me. I was about to write to the poster but then thought it would be wrong to try to wield a stick.

Suggestions welcome.

I try to run real tight ship over there. Kids will be kids and adults will be adults,..... This community has a wide variety of age groups. When you enter any forum, you need to accept this and deal with it. We can't police every body's maturity level around here.

Quote:
The screenshot contest, though good in its conception have become a prime place for this immaturity. Just look at some of the comments that have been made over the past contests.

I highly disagree with that as I monitor it to the best of my ability. I am always on top of anybody who is causing a stir. That is why I createdThe Oath! As silly as it seems, since I posted this and asked everybody to sign it, it has been smooth sailing! I will delete anything that is not within the guidelines or anything that somebody posts that is offensive or troubling! That's it. Read the rules, post your shot, be supportive of your other members and have fun!

If somebody does not like a certain forum,  you have the freedom not to enter it. I have heard this all before and life goes on. Your post referencing the Monthly Screenshot Contest is why I wonder why I even waste my time with the whole contest to begin with. Many, many people enjoy the monthly contest and have nice comments and constructive criticism for most of the entries. I think it has created an environment for everybody to learn from and have some fun. Heck, StudioV was "born" from the monthly contest! I find the ones complaining about how it is run, why they are not in the finals, etc.. are the ones who maybe should not be joining in this competitive fun that we have tried to offer to our forum members..

If it really gets to you, maybe it is time to lay low   Wink
