I recently decided to try my hand at aircraft design. Here's some work-in-progress shots of one of my experiments (one of 3 I've started). It's supposed to be a sort of jet-driven flying-wing thing. As you can see, it's still VERY early in the design phase. I'm basically just building this as I go along, with nothing really in mind.

...

...

I don't know how far I'll take this project. It's not even for FS, really. Anyhow, just thought I'd share what I've been up to.

For those wondering, I'm using Rhinoceros to model this, as it's the only programme I know how to use (don't have the patience to learn Gmax or FSDS). Tongue

Looking really nifty there, Lazerbeak!  I really like the shape that things taking.  Sort of similar to a flying manta ray, huh?

And I wouldn't be too hasty to say that it wasn't for FS.  After all, there are converters out there that can take a project from Rhino to Gmax.  You'll have to texture and animate in Gmax, but all your "hard" modelling can be done in Rhino to start with.

I would deffinitely put some more effort into that, since it looks like a cool thing to have in your hangar.

I've made some updates. The gear struts are done, and I've added pylons for the engines. Next I'll be carving out the gear doors and cockpit. Perhaps even making a VC if I can work up the courage!

...

I'm really glad to see that people like it. I think if enough people are interested in it, I'll go ahead and make it a full-fledged FS craft, with all the proverbial bells and whistles. Wink

That looks really cool. Shocked Keep going and make it an FS aircraft; I think it will be quite impressive and fun to fly.

BTW, did you get a chance to try the HJ?

Indeed I did, and it's very much improved. I'll be sending you a PM with a more in-depth review soon. Smiley

I like how you have setup the landing gear. That's pretty impressive.

Looking good, but you do realize that the amount of polygons look way to high for FS?

That's true, but Rhino is notorious for being very high-poly. So far, this is just NURBS modelling, when and if I export to Gmax, it will allow me to choose how complex I want the resulting mesh to be, and I can lower the polycount accordingly.
