        Hello everyone whom inquires
I am a US Naval Aviator aboard the USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74). I recently got my hands on a copy of CFS2. However, it seems I cannot upload any new aircraft in the game. CFS1 and 3 are no problem I use the same winzip technique provided by this wonderful sight. this game helps me hone skills that I'm not permitted too do in my FA-18D Super Hornet here at my floating, and lonely home. Would somebody please help an old flyboy out PLEASE !!!!!

Welcome friend to our community. First of all I"m very proud of the service you and your fellow Naval bodies are providing for our Nation.

Regardless of what we might think of our Goevermental policies we are very proud of you and we will give all our support to you and the other servicemen.

As for installing new planes in this Sim its very easy. All you need is to first is to get familar with the folders set up within the Combat flight Simulator 2. Its takes a while to get familiar with them and what they are use for.

Then you need to download the plane and install it inside the the folder call Aircraft. After you have done that you need to go inside the new install Aircraft folder and see if in has additional folder need to be install. Sometimes within the Aircraft folder are additional folder that need to be install. Like gauges and weapons. If its gauges all you need to is to copy the content inside the Gauge folder and copy them into the main gauges folder. You need to the same with any aditional folder you might find inside the Aircraft folder.

If you need to add new weapons you need to go inside the SCENEDB and look for a folder call weapons. Go inside of it and you will find two folders call scenery and texure. Copy and the new weapons in the appropiate folder.

This way your new addon plane will show up in the game. Most planes doe are install ready. In other words all you need is to install them and they will show up in the Sim.

I forgot you need to get familiar with the folder inside the Aircraft folder.Every Aircraft folder should have four folders within it that allows the Airfcrat to show up. They are the:

1.MODEL
2.PANEL
3.SOUND
4.TEXTURE

make sure they have  appropite content inside of them. The most common missing element is no sound inside the Sound folder. Thats easy to fix. All you is get a new sound from another plane of the same model with sounds and copy and paste inside the new planes sound folder.

Now you should be able to fly the legandary Wildcats and Hellcats plus the Avengers and SBD and sink enemy carriers like out for fathers had to do in World war two.

If you take them to the next level you feel  the drill of shooting down a Zeros or been shot down by one. You will feel the danger of  Naval arial combat during that Era. Believe it or not the Pacific Arial war was a lot tougher than what we have been told.

If you have any question do not hesitate and come back to this forum and I and other members will more than thrill to help you out.

I also recommend you scroll through this post. It may help improve your enjoyment of this Sim:

By Hagar:
BGL files go in CFS2\SCENEDB\weapons\scenery
BMP textures in CFS2\SCENEDB\weapons\texture
& DP files in CFS2\OBJECTS_DP

I also recommend you learn how to Build missions and campaings. Thats where this Sim really rocks.

If you want to fly from a more modern carrier in CFS2 try this link for the USS Stennis:

http://www.netwings.org/library/CFS2%5FShips/index-2.html

It goes in the SHIPS folder, the missions go in the MISSIONS folder and the effects go in the EFFECTS folder.

USSCVN74pilot thats one nice picture of the crew. Thank you for sharing it with us. Like I said before and I meant it. We are all proud of you and your fellow crew men. Maybe you do not hear about it very much but I guarranty it, the Nation loves you and cares a lot about you all.

War are won not only by those in the Front line but also by those men and woman that support them in the front line. Your maintance crew are as essential as those in the Front line. It always was and still is a team effort.

Do not give up. I will do my best I can do to teach you how to install new planes to this sim. I also had problems at the begining but once I got the hang of it I realize what a good game this Sim really is. Now I have got over 1,000 planes and counting. I have countless sceneries and Theater installed and almost every day there is some thing new to add to this sim.

Just remember this planes where prop and not Jets. You have to fly them a bit different than you would fly the Hornet F18. I hope to hear from you on how it compares to the real thing when it comes to landing on a carrier once you have learn to install new planes. Hey, you can start by landing in the training selection of the Sim with the stock planes.

Now I"m a bit busy now, but as soon as I can I will try to help you to the best of my ability. Maybe others can jump in and help you too.

You ask:And what is the MODEL_DBG file

I would not worry about it. The addon planes do not need this folder to be able to work properly in this Sim.

I recommend you install only three to four at any one time for them to show up in the Sim.

Thre is also a limitation of one 90 to 100 planes per Hangar.

There is a utility that will enable you to install a lot more planes per install that I will explain to you later.

I will give you a advice. If you are looking for jets for this Sim you can do it. There are lots of Modern planes available in this and other Website dedicated to Sim. But you may find them wanting due to its engine and the format of this Sim. Simply put this Sim supports Modern Jets but it  will not Simulate them to perfection. It will only do that up to the Korea war era.  There are many other Sims the on  Market that will do a more complete Simulation of Modern Jets than this Sim. If I where you I would try them any way but I though you should know that.

Now you if are looking for a bit of Naval Historical Avition Simulation this is the right Sim. If you want to feel what was it like flying the vintage planes of the prervious generation. This is the right Sim. If you want to mimic what was it like to fly in the famaous Battle of Midway or Coral Sea. You have pick the right Sim.

Beside you can fly and fight in other vintage planes of that era and in different theaters and Battles as well. Its all up to you.

The stock campaign and misions are a bit wanting. But there are hundreds of campaigns and missions made by the communty that are of very good quality. You can also build campaigns and missions through its Mission Bulider if you so desire. Thats where this Sim really rocks in my opinion.

This has been a advice

This post will be dedicated for those who are having problems in installing AC into CFS2.

Installing AC into CFS2 is real easy once you have learn what to look for and how this program works.

The first thing I recommend is for you to get familiar with the inner working of CFS2.

Go to: Mycomputer C/Local Disk(C:)/Program
files/Microsoft Games/Combat Flight Simulator 2

Get familiar the all the its folder the names of the files before you start to down loading anything.

Now find the Website you want to down load your new plane from.

You can start by browsing through this post. It has many Website dedicated to the improvement of CFS2 in it.

1.http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=cfs2;action=display;num=11...

Lets start with the CFS2 section dedicated to AC in this Wedsite.

2.http://www.simviation.com/cfs2aircraft1.htm

There are many more Websites with AC for CFS2 as well.

The next thing for you to do is to down load the new third party plane into a New folder created by you. You place this folder any where you like. You can call it New AC if you want or give it any name you like. Now you go to your Web site that you want to down load the new AC. Down load it to this new AC folder or directly load it to the AC folder. The AC forlder is call AIRCRAFT.

You need to get familiair with the content of the AC and what is needed to make it work properly.

Every AC has this basic folders inside their respective AC folder. I picked the A6M2_ZERO as example:

1.MODEL: the configuration of the AC.

2.PANEL:The panel and its working

3.SOUND: Sound of the AC.

4.TEXTURE: The texture of the AC.

they also have this basic files.

aircraft CFG: It give the AC its Identification and name within the CFS2 program. It also has some other basic information.

a6m2_zero DP: Damage properties and weapons points and load.

a6m2_zero AIR file: its Arial abilities. In other words how this plane should fly according to its developers.

a6m2_zero CDP : This files keeps a record of the AC previous files. Now this is replicated every time you fly with this AC. You can and should deleted it every time you add somthings new like weapons to the AC. Do not worry it will replicate itself evey time Automaticaly. If you do not deleted it the new weapons or other install may not show up.

Now down load your new AC in to the folder you chose by routing it through Save and not Open option.

Go inside the new AC folder and look for the AC folder and see if it has the all of its proper  folder and files. Some times you may  find additional folder within  the AC folders and some times the AC is insde the folder with the same name. You always need to go inside the AC folder to make sure if the AC is inside of it.

If it has additional folders you need to copy and paste them to their respective folder to enable the AC to show and fly properly in this program.

After you have done that you need to go inside the new install Aircraft folder and see if in has additional folder you  need to install. Sometimes within the Aircraft folder there are additional folder that need to be install. Like gauges and weapons. If its gauges all you need to is to copy the content inside the Gauge folder and copy them into the main gauges folder. You need to make the to do same steps with any aditional folder you might find inside the Aircraft folder.

If you need to add new weapons you need to go inside the SCENEDB folder and look for a folder call weapons. Go inside of it and you will find two folders call scenery and texure. Copy and the new weapons in the appropiate folder.

This way your new addon plane will show up in the game. Most planes doe are install ready. In other words all you need is to install them and they will show up in the Sim.

make sure they have  the appropiate content inside of them.

If you take them to the next level you feel  the thrill of shooting down a Zeros or been shot down by one. You will feel the danger of  Naval arial combat during that Era. Believe it or not the Pacific Arial war was a lot tougher than what we have been told.

I also recommend you scroll through this post. It may help improve your enjoyment of this Sim:

How to add planes into CFS2 by Jaxons:

2.http://www.michael-reimer.com/CFS2/CFS2_Tips.html

By Hagar:
BGL files go in CFS2\SCENEDB\weapons\scenery
BMP textures in CFS2\SCENEDB\weapons\texture
& DP files in CFS2\OBJECTS_DP

With this c

I also recommend you learn how to Build missions and campaings. Thats where this Sim really rocks. Look for Coyotes Mission Builder Ttorial:

http://www.simviation.com/cfs2misc2.htm

You may ask:what is the MODEL_DBG file that is inside the stock AC folder.

I would not worry about it. The addon planes do not need this folder to be able to work properly in this Sim.

I recommend you install only three to four AC at any one time for them to show up in the Sim.

Thre is also a limitation of one 90 to 100 planes per Hangar. Hangar it simply means inside the AIRCRAFT folder.

There is a utility that will enable you to install a lot more planes per install.

With this program you can install more than one thousand planes. Its call AC man:

http://fly.to/mwgfx

You need to look for the CFS2 AC utlilities section. Its real easy to install and use. this utility will make it possible for the user to have as many as eighteen Hangars within one install. You can use it in different installs. This will allow you to have unlimited amount of AC to fly with in this program.

How to install new texure so will show up to the Mission Builder. That real easy. All you need to do is to install the new texutes in to the AC Texure folder. If you want to use it as new texure in a new plane like for example you want the stock plane with the new texute to show up as a addon in the Mission Builder. All you need to do is to create a new AC folder. Here I will explain it in a step by step process.

1.Go inside ADDON folder

2.Create a new folder

3.Give the new folder the AC name plus the new texure name.

4.Copy and paste the content of the original plane inside the AIRCRAFT you wanted to chage the texure from into the new AC folder foder inside the ADDDON folder.

5.Go and copy and paste the new TEXURE call kamuri into the texure folder.

6.Go inside the new AC folder and look for the file call CFG and open it up with your notepad.

[fltsim.0]
title=A6M2 Zero
sim=A6M2_Zero
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=
KB_checklists=a6m2_zero_check

Change the title name form A6M2 Zero to A6M2 Zero Kamuri.

[fltsim.0]
title=A6M2 Zero kamuri
sim=A6M2_Zero
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=
KB_checklists=a6m2_zero_check

Now you have a new AC that will show up as a new AC  with a different TEXURE.

7. Now cut the new plane and paste it inside the AIRCRAFT Folder.

Thats it!

I hope I have been helpful

If you have any question do not hesitate and come back to this forum and I and other members will more than thrill to help you out.

Thank You everyone for your kind words though some of you may not agree with our predicament in Iraq your support has been more than enough. I am finally on my way and have uploaded over 30 AC into my CFS2 game. James007 you in piticular have gone above and beyond the call of duty and i appreciate your help a great deal my down time has been cut to zero and i'm not getting to play as much with things escalating in N.Korea our unit has been redeployed to  Japan's northern coast in case of an emergency and tension has increased a great deal. back home i'm sure everyone's cozy. well that's why i'm here to serve and deter. patrols have increased a great deal so my game time has become practically non existent 14-22 hour days with minimal sleep are now common practice it's like operation Iraqi freedom all over except the all the target shacking. sunday brought me an intense moment when my port engine had a fuel line rupture and i was forced to do my first night landing on 1 engine at 140kts. scary doesn't even begin to describe landing on one of these flatops with nothing but ocean 360. well this short essay has got to end i've got a patrol in 2 hours and breifing in 15 min. once again thanks all and i will continue to submit to the forum as much as possible in the weeks to come only 8 weeks left on this deployment looking forward to some land time. Peace and have a great HALLOWEEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

USSCVN74pilot Its been a pleasure to have been able to help you out. Its you and the other member of the Arm forces that have kept us cozy. I and my fimaly will be praying for you and the other members of our Arm forces.

Your service with the Arm forces has come at a crusial time in History. You may not understand this. But at this time in History we are crossing one of those turning pionts that we might be reading about for years to come.

Take this as a reference in History. Even though its a total different senerio than it was in August 1914 or 1939 its importance in History is just as Significant.

I"am very concern about resent events since I have a twenty one and  thirdteen year old sons. They may end up going to as well. I know they will do their Duty if they have to but my heart will ache.

I just hope to God we will be able to get through this rough times for the sake Humanity.

As for CFS2. I will help you every time you will need help. Even dow I"am not the most knowlegable member of this communitty I will do my best to help you out. Remember its good to have a distraction or Hooby, so drop by as many times as you feel you need help.

GOD BLESS AMERICA and GOD BLESS THE FREE WORLD
