BBC News just reporting that a budget airline in Brazil has lost an airliner. A collision with another aircraft is suspected.

Brand new 73G, operated by Brazialian carrier GOL   Cry

Edit: Check that, it's a 737-800, and not 73G. Doesn't really make a difference, it is a tradegy nonetheless.

Here is a BBC news thing.

I hope they find it!
This is Gol's first major crash since it was founded in 2001 and the plane was brand new this month.

You go outside, and look up at the sky, and observe what an enormous empty space it is, and then wonder how two tiny objects such as aeroplanes can collide with one another over a sparcely populated, remote area...?
..it seems almost impossible...!

Very sad...

Paul.

Considering they are flying in an airway system, it is possible to happen, but very unlikely....especially head to head encounters. They shouldn't even be on the same flight level.  ???

Although that's hardly relevant, it's far worse to see an older aircraft involved in an accident. A 737 is hardly unreplaceable.

Any news on the fate of the aircraft, yet?

Yes... really bad news. I'm normally very optimistic, but this looks bad.
This one will have them puzzling, as both planes, supposedly, were equipped with TCAS.

So did the Tu-154 and the Boeing 757 over Southern Germany in 2002.

I note that they're now saying  there is no proof of a collision as originally reported. If that is the case how was the Legacy damaged? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/5395042.stm
