Ok, time for a 2nd one form my archives.
I love to recreate real stories and events of (military) aviation. I read about this one in the book Mr. Goebel wrote "Mustang Ace: Memoirs of A P-51 Fighter Pilot". There he explains his 1st mission in the P-51D model with the increased arnament of now 6 cal.50s.
You can have a read about this particular event here:
http://www.acepilots.com/usaaf_goebel.html
I tried to get this done as authentic as possible and hope you enjoy it.
If you want to know more about how this artwork has been created you can read it in the related topic at screenhotprints:

WOW very realistic! I can't wait to see more!
Rhys
High Flight Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air. Up, up the long delirious, burning blue, I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace Where never lark, or even eagle flew - And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod The high untresspassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand and touched the face of God.&&

Great shot, Simplex! I also thought I had seen it before, but I confused it with another, very similar shot. I love everything in your shot man! The lighting, the contrails, the props, the fire, the smoke... All fantastic! Good job!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the planes are actually from IL-2.

Many many thanks for your kind words!
Yes, the planes are from IL2, well spotted! Although in that kind of edit it wouldn't make any difference at all where they originally came from. It is already a good bit away from a screenshot regarding how much has been done.
Best regards!
