My ground textures and terrain mesh get very blurry when i look at them from far away at an angle. If I look straight down the detail is somewhat good but when i look at an angle the texture gets blurry and the mesh less detailed. When i move closer they get clearer a square at a time. im sure this is called something but this is the only way i know how to describe it. is there any way to tweak the fs9.cfg file to make the ground clearer at a farther distance?

You have the mip-map quality set to a low level. The higher you set it the less blurry textures will be, however when set to a high level they look grainy. You can change it in FS9, no need to edit the CFG.

star at the 6th post down and go from there however cameron is correct... without knowing what hardware you have that thread is useless because it is designed for a minimum type of hardware for it to work

Open up your controol panel, then click system. Right there you can find your total RAM and your XPU name and speed. To find out what graphics adapter you have, click the hardware tab in system, then "Device Manager." When your in there expand your display adapter tab, and thats what your GPU is.

Tis what I thought. Its your way underpowerd GPU. The thread Nick posted will only help so much, however when it all comes down to it, your gonna need a better GPU to truely fix the problem. I'm guessing you own a Dell dont you.

Video card, it's a kinda bad video card for FS. If you have money and any experience with building in you own components i'd say you buy a new card first, now tell us what your budget is.

I dont really have a budget at all, i dont really want to spend any money. Im sure i cant get very far that way, but that's ok with me.
What i meant when i said "what does that mean" is what does having a dell mean, i understood the bad card thing, sorry if i didnt clarify.

I ment you own a Dell brand computer. I was only saying that due to the fact that your setup is about what their standird build is.
Anyway, like said before, useing that thread as a way to figure out how to get the most out of your card could help you out, but to truely fix the problem your going to have to get a better card.
Cheers

im not very good at clarification
, i knew that having a dell meant a dell computer, i was just wonder if dell's came with a standard system that wasn't good for FS.
Anyway, doesnt really matter, thanks for the help, my scenery isn't terrible so i'll just live with what i have, but i do need that terrain mesh that's being transfered here at SimV!

With some optimizing you can make fs9 run and look really nice. Someone on Avsim has the same setup as you and he posted some screens.
They were Fly2e quality and he said it was real smooth. You could buy fs-gs which MAY help you

FS-GS is not worth it, with an onboard video card the money is better spent on a video card. Assuming you have a PCI-E slot.

Exactly. Now if you for some reason absolutely positively can not get a new video card, then contact michael, but a better video card will help you much more than FSGS will. And be thankful that you have a PCI-E slot, and not AGP.

For PCI-E, currently the best singal card is the ATi Radeon X1950XTX, costing around $650 depending on who you buy it from. Now you can also find 7800GTs floating around for about $200. Personally I would buy a 7900GS for $220. As a absolute last resort you could get a X850XT for a cool $140, but I wouldn't advise it.

if your tight on money, a 7800 will do good, personally its the card I would have bought had I had a little more money lying about! It runs everything pretty good from what Gunnerman told me (BF2,GW,FEAR, etc etc) I dont know too much about 7900s or 7950s, and I definatly am a noob to ATI cards.... Cheers, Gunny (DO NOT buy a lower card like I have done, you'll kill yourself over it!)

just to add to the last post..
if ur going Nvidia then the 7800 or 7900 (any sort) is fine just no the 7950 as its not as great as some make it to be... most of the models ive seen so far have hardly any if some chipset features which is rather ghey.

I think the best value cards are:
7600GT - Around $120 US
7900GS - Around $200 US
Assuming you have PCI-E, not AGP.

So ... while we're at it why not add to it
If you don't have a PCIe slot but an AGP slot in your Dell you might want to consider buying a
Gainward 7800 GS+
which is the fastest AGP card around these days. I have one an there's a G71 core in it, which (I believe) is the 7900 core (right Nick?). They're not cheap (around €350) and they're not the fastest but if you're happy with your system (like me) you might want to buy one of those cards ...
You'll probably end up with shots like
these
or
these
(if you like them).
BTW: a Dell is a greaat machine ... I have one too! Don't be fooled that they are bad machines. The only "bad" thing is that you can't overclock your motherboard and the likes because you can't adjust those settings in you Dell BIOS. But as long as you have your system tuned to the max your fine with a 3 Ghz. Dell with a gig of RAM.
But like the others said ... it's you card that's the weakest point
Dell Dimension 8300 | P4 3.2 Ghz. | 2 GB RAM | 150 GB WD Raptor | Gainward 7800 GS+ 512 | FS-GS
