After a recent post I noticed that my picture/avatar
was set to something I never specified.

After multiple attempts to change the picture, first to
one of my own and then (no pic), I have been unable
to change the settings.  After the edit indicates "done", exiting and reading my post, the pic is still the same one as when I first
noticed the problem.
Returning to edit my profile each time I find it set to this other
picture ( the one listed just below (no pic) )

There seems to be a problem with the profile editing process.

This appears fairly normal. I haven't been able to change my profile for months. To change my avatar and sig I used to upload a new one with the same filename to overwrite the old one. Unfortunately some sad people decided to abuse the system, overwrite other peoples screenshots etc, and now you can't upload files with the same name...

Shame really, but it's always a small minority the spoil it for others Roll Eyes

The usual reason for that is your avatar image being outside the forum limits. I copied this from the Image Upload page: Please keep PERSONAL avatars (logo under your name) less than 10K & 100 pixels wide

I haven't tried updating my profile recently but many people have reported problems. I can only suggest you try again when it's not so busy.

No, I tried setting it to NO avatar and it wouldn't take it plus
also trying to change it BACK to what it was before...a small
JPG only 4K in size.

I also tried just adding a simple "signature"...my 1st name.
No dice!

IMO it's just plain PORKED!

That might be so but you're not alone. Lots of similar topics here. http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=brokenlinks

Never mind. We should have a new forum soon.

You'll have to wait for the new server I'm afraid. The old one can't manage and the sheer number of problems and users just seems to have buggered things up good and proper. But don't fear our glorious leader Pete is on the case (possibly of Scotch) Wink Grin

Did you know Hussars are in fact of Hungarian origin?

But we're not talking horses here.

Huzzah Wink

Quote:
Huzzah (originally huzza) is an old English expression of joy or approbation. According to the Oxford English Dictionary it is "apparently a mere exclamation" without any particular derivation. The OED notes, however, that in the 17th and 18th centuries it was identified as a sailor's cheer or salute, and thus was possibly related to words like heeze and hissa which are cognates of hoist.

Quote:
It is often associated with the cry of the British redcoats during the American Revolution.

I managed to change my profile recently, albeit after trying numerous times at PEAK hours.
I then tried at 6.30am UK time, walked the dog, came back and bingo.. changed.
