This is a web site for a video game (although we like to fool ourselves in to thinking it's a serious piece of software like Excel or Power Point). It is entirely possible that a kid, say 13-14 years old, who knows nothing of the world and business, has big dreams about starting his own airline and wants to know what is involved. Said kid could be posting on a website just like this with a genuine wonder about the world and what to expect when it comes time to start his/her career. When I was that age I wanted to be a Formula 1 driver. Not a realistic expectation but entirely understandable given my age. Lots of kids want to be popular musicians, actors, etc. Nothing wrong with it, it's natural.

Considering all the dreams kids have of the future: rock star, famous artist, president of the United States, I'd say owner of an airline is one of the more realistic dreams.

It is possible. But you ask how to start an airline, you list as attributes 1K in the bank, you live near a local airport, and you have a few FS9 paint jobs. LOL!!!!

You speculate that you might be an airline pilot but you're hard of hearing, hard of seeing, and you're very short.

It is possible that you're serious, but based on how the thread is going, I suspect you're pulling everyone's leg.

Trust me.. if/when you start flying for real.. You'll see that this software can be quite serious. It's far superior to what the FAA already certifies for instrument training.

My comment was in regard to the demographic the software appeals to. I'm 30 years old and love the software. But I loved it when it first came out and I was a teen. As a teen I had absolutely zero interest in Lotus 123. So, given that this is a Flight Sim forum it is rather likely that many of the folks who post on here are teens. That isn't to say the softare isn't good, or real, or have real world application. But it is a game. Don't believe me? If you were to buy a copy at the store today what section would you look in? Business? Utilities? I'd look in "Games".

Can't argue with that. And I hope it stays that way. As long as it stays popular and affordable.. it will keep getting better.

The goofy software on our club's instrument simulator is a joke in comparison and because it's "FAA certified".. it's somewhere over $1000 for a licensed copy.

EDIT: (and you have to pay $30/hour to use it (it's actually got a hobbes meter) and have an instructor supervise in order to log it toward you instrument rating)

I often wonder how many of the little lads who play "Train Sim" are really serious when they say they really want to build a copy of Grand Central Station, lay 1000 miles of train track, purchase all the rolling stock necessary to carry passengers and goods, install all the signal boxes, etc, etc, and then run the whole system single-handed... Wink

Funny thing was, he was on BBC's "Ready, Steady, Cook" programme yesterday which feature young "entrepreneurs" talking about how he's looking for a new Aston Martin. Unfortunately the amount of press that's been generated in the past, a lot of people just don't take him seriously anymore, and it seems he may well be willing to cash in on press interest in his well published failure.

The highlight for me was when the airline announced a new service to Blackpool starting the following week, to which Blackpool Airports response was along the lines of "well he hasn't told us yet!" Grin

My favorite guy in that picture is the one standing on the fork of the bottom fork lift holding the other forklift on. Yeah, like you'd be able to hold on to that if the 3000-4000 pounds worth of machinery decided to fall off...
