OK..here's the deal. I have a Auzentech Xmystique DDL soundcard. It uses the Cmedia 8768+ chipset. My speakers are Logitech Z5500s connected through a coaxial cable When I fly in the FS X demo,I can only hear stero sound. Music(outside of FS X) plays fine, with all 5 speakers working. Will this be fixed by the time FS X arrives in stores? (Note: this issue also happens in other games.) Sorry if this is the wrong forum for my question...

According to Microsoft, 5.1 will be supported in FSX. You should be able to hear the engines through the main speakers while the radio through go through your headset.

How are they splitting that out? SOunds like it would be possible with some hardware modifications. Unless general sounds are on only the rear speakers.
Any info on that?

It requires TWO sound systems (cards) to separate them.

The ACES team would've let us know about that if that was the case. Besides, I don't see the logic in having two cards.

Katahu,
Thgose of us who run simpits typically have Teamspeak or the VATSIM stuff on a second machine. That allows the FS sounds to come into the pit on the normal 5.1 (or whatever) speakers. The second machine's sound output .......the "radios" if you will.... are fed to the headset. So it mimics the real worle well.
I don;t see HOW they will split the sounds out like that without TWO soundcards or something like that. Or having one or two of the surround sound channels dedicated to the radios... and then you'd have to do some sophisticated hardware setup with the 5.1 sound card output....... no speakers....but a jack for headphones.
I think this is unlikely in a "general consumer" softweare setup.
So I don;t understand HOW they will implement this idea.
best,
......john

I had a feeling that there was a logic behind the use of two pieces of hardware to direct sound but I couldn't put my thumb on it. Thanks.

I read that the definate statement from MS is that to hav the split outputs, to sound cards are required.
I suspect that if ur motherboard has an onboard sound output, and u buy a PCI one, then u plug in ur speakers to the PCI one, and the headset to the motherboard one.
U probably need a hack to be able to use only 1 sound card...

No, bit it may be able to split the two different sound sections into two different outputs...

I was playing the demo and I heard ATC in my headset (USB) and the other sound through my speakers.

Aha....usb souind and sound card direct output. Maybe that is the way they are handling the concept.
Thanks.

There are
two
and only two methods to get ATC sound on a headset:
1) USB headset (as you noted) which is essentially a "second sound card," 'cause it's built into the headset!
2) A second sound card. Typically, the user replaces the 'onboard sound' with a PCI audio card. The 'onboard sound' can then be re-enabled and directed to provide the "voice channel" to the headset.

What I would really like to see is 5.1 ambient sound-...the current stereo setup just doesn't cut it for me in terms of realism.
True surround would make a huge difference, especially if assigning different sound files to each channel were possible...
I like the idea of having an isolated channel for ATC, but I'd rather have a more realistic open-cockpit NORDO experience...
