If when you are online and connected and are sitting in your aircraft somewhere.... hit the "ENTER" key.  That will pop up the chat box.

You click in the message area and then type in what you want to say.  Hit "OK" or "ENTER" and it goes out to everyone connected on the server.

Another alternative is to use TEAMSPEAK...... a freeware voice client.

Look elsewhere in this forum for info on finding Teamspeak.  When you get the diownload.... read the manual to learn how to set it up. 

Once is is set up....you connect to the Teamspeak channel people are yusing.... and you hear what is said and using your mike ......when you hit the PTT switch (push to talk) your voice goes out over the "air"  (wires actually  .

You DO need a mike of SOME sort  .  Unless you just want to listen in...... but then you'd seem REALLY "stuck up" cause you'd appear on the Teamspeak screen as being active but not talking ever.  

The easiest approach is a set of phones with the built in boom mike.  Most computer "multimedia" setups work just fine.   While a desk mike WOULD work....... it would be pretty inconvenient in my opinion.  You should be able to find a decent lightweight headset w mike for about $15.00 - 20.00 USD.

An "aviation headset" I THINK has a different impedance for both the phones part and also the mike input.  I know there is a company that sells an adapter to make that hookup to the computer possible....... but you know... unless you are building a simpit (like me) you really don't need that level of "realism" ....  northe aviation headset's PRICETAG either  .

Even if you don't have TS you can hit enter and type in the chatbox .
