Sound problems are usually caused by IRQ or DMA conflicts. This should be easily found in your device manager.
Have you installed any programs lately? Maybe turning off TSR's one at a time in msconfig will help.
When all else fails read your documentation.

The only thing I did was install a codec pack and then uninstall it...I don't know whats wrong...also, before the sounds goes away, I get a message saying "Generic Process for Windows 32 has encountered an error and needs to close"...I need to send an error report etc etc...Also, my audio is Realtek '97 Audio...where can I find drivers for it? Cry Cry Cry

EDIT: I found the site for RealTek...

Shall I install these new drivers? Will that fix the problem?

Could you also post what is  the system section in your event viewer?
