New Iron Maiden album, what do you think?

Personally I like it alot, better than the last few, and they sound stronger than ever.
Now if we can get these guys to play more US dates!!Haven't seen them since Powerslave.

I love it, highlights for me are Longest Day and The Legacy. They are toying with the idea of doing some festival dates in the UK next year so that's something I'm going to see.

I like the whole story can't really decide on a favorite song yet.

The thing that boggles me is that I was watching a interview with Steve Harris and he mentioned this album was going back to the sound of Powerslave, personall besides the "epic stories" these songs have there isn't much similar to the PS record.

The band as a six piece work really great now and I hope some of the "nu-metal" lovers take a listen and enjoy the stories that IM tells Wink

Well in sound it's closest to Dance of Death just with far better song writing.

Powerslave was not anywhere near as heavy with more commercial songs (with the exception of Rime of the Ancient Mariner.) I think they are both excellent albums though, Powerslave is one of my favourites.

I agree about the stories, the Longest Day lyrics are really excellent. The Legacy is just by far their most elegant sounding song.

I can see this one ranking high in my list of Maiden albums, somewhere near Seventh Son.

Have not picked it up yet.
What would you say it mostly sounds like then?
Older or newer?

It definately sounds like new maiden but they finally seem to have sorted the song writing, it all flows better than Dance of Death. Lots of epic +7 minute songs on here. If you want an indicator of how it sounds listen to the previews on ironmaiden.com

Yeah like he said, more "newer" Maiden sound with hints of the past, but the 3 guitar sound has a natural sound as if it has been there since the early years. But overall probably the best they have had in a few albums.
They recorded the whole album in 2 months time, and most was recorded live in studio which is why I think it has that sound.

If you can get it, buy the special version with the DVD. I pre-ordered so for $16 I got the cd,dvd and a t-shirt so even if the album was bad I still got a killer deal Wink

I'm not sure about it yet- It certainly has the 'new' Iron maiden feel about it, but nothing will ever beat Two Minuites to Midnight or Run to the Hills Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Nah my favourite now I've decided is Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son. The album is chock full of awesome songs like Can I Play With Madness, The Clairvoyant, The Evil That Men Do, Moonchild and the title track..... In fact every song on there.

The order runs as so:

Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
The Number Of The Beast
Powerslave & Matter Of Life And Death (together)

All the rest....

If I were to list my favorites

Powerslave
Piece of Mind
Matter of Life and Death
Live After Death (the Rio live album wreaks of bad production)

Then the rest.....

Back when records were still the thing, I got 3 Iron Maiden Picture discs!

The songs on them were::::

1. I got the fire.
2. Remake of "Cross Eyed Mary" by Jethro Tull &
3. Rainbow's Gold.

If I can dig them out of the attic, I will take some pictures of them!

Any of you heard these songs?

that's what happened when my Dad heard me listening to Frank Zappa's J"Joe's Garage" back when i was about 14 or so.

Being a dad now myself, I would have done the same thing!  Grin Wink

Sweet ! i havent seen those in a long time, I had all but the Trooper disc, also had some other odd ball B-sides.
Which BTW Maiden recorder some acoustic B-sides with this album, songs by ZZTop, Iggy Pop and a few others.

I had to laugh about the Joes Garage, I first heard that when I was the same age and my mother finally gave it back to me 2 years ago, she had taken it and forgot all about it all these years! lmao!! Great stuff!!!

Pretty cool stuff Dave.

I have two singles from Brave New World they both have jam sessions as the B-side. They are called "More Tea Vicar" and "Pass The Jam"  Grin

I have a few maiden vynils. I have Killers, Powerslave, Seventh Son and Number Of The Beast.

I would love to see Maiden at Earls Court but all the standing tickets are sold out. Unless I'm at the front headbangin' it isn't worth it Grin
