I was just perusing through some old projects and came upon one that included a pilot helmet with a full faceplate, and it lead me to wonder if there is a way to make a HUD mounted so that any time a person moves the viewpoint (in the VC) the gauges will move with the view.  Simply put: a way to simulate a helmet-mounted HUD.

Can anyone think of anything remotely like this?

i believe there might be a way of doing that

im not sure, but if itīs somehow possible to make 2d panel popups (on shift+2, shift+3) transparent, you would be able to create a large one for a hud and make it appear on the center of the screen...

i think itīs possible to make them transparent, as long as your not flying in windowed mode... (the small GPS for instance, is not perfectly rectangular, so there must be a way to assign a transparent color when you are drawing the gauge... which i believe to be #00000 black)

of course, you would have to toggle it on by pressing whatever panel key itīs assigned to, but it would stick to that position on the screen (provided you donīt drag it out of place)

the only problem i see with this approach is that it would make it impossible to click on the VC behind the HUD, since you would be clicking on the panel popup

but, hey, itīs worth the shot Wink

let us know if it works

The only thing that comes to mind as a idea, is possibally build a pilot, then mount a helmet which then place your plane (poly) near the face (note a hud plane to mount guages etc.). Attach, to the head, give the Head a XML animation to be animated along with the control surfaces that are inputed.  That should work (only in VC view), although I don't know of the code that comes to mind. Grin hope this helps. Wink

SkyNoz, what you say makes sense, but it wouldn't work for what I'm looking for:

I want the HMD to move with the VIEW, not just the CONTROL SURFACES.  If it were to move with the control surfaces, I would just create it the same way I create a moving head or control stick.

But it doesn't matter, anyway, since I do believe the guys over at FFDS have solved the problem.

But thanks for the help! Wink
