Hi there I am on flight sims since 2002 june,but today I was first time in my life on a real airport spotting 737 and Fokker 100 . It was very cool,earlier I weare on small airport grassed .But I saw somthing that I never noticed on flight sims,When pilot turned of engines and Jet blast dessapiered,som other blast shown up at the and of the tail,at 737-300,what it is can anyone tell me,are that generators and if they are where are they placed in ariplane???

PS:I was at Tivat airport LYTV,I live in Montenegro Europe...

Most airliners have an APU (auxiliary Power Unit), and yes it's a generator located in the tail and provides electricity and air for the air conditioning (aswell as pneumaytics required to spool up the engine during startups) when the aircraft is parked at the gate.
It's basicly a turbine that saps fuel from the fueltanks
and in returns deliver AC power and bleed air

Yep, APU, basically a little jet engine.
I like refueling the CRJ's in the winter because I can stand in the APU blast to keep me warm.
