You guys having trouble can try this template…

I will tell you this though, if you are running less than an x800 or comparable Nivida video card, and a decent 939 or comparable Inhell setup may not be able to use this but you can try it.

Here is how you use this…

1.
Open notepad. Copy and paste the list below into a blank notepad.

2.
Browse to
C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR ACCOUNT NAME\Application Data\Microsoft\FSXDemo

3.
Back up your current FSX.cfg.

4.
Open the original FSX.cfg and locate the following lines:

[DISPLAY.Device.XXXXXXXXXXXXX  .0]
Mode=XXXXXXX

Transfer those lines to the new notepad list, OVERWRITNG the two below listed as:

[DISPLAY.XXXXXXXXXXXXXX]//EDIT IN YOUR ADAPTER
Mode=XXXXXXXX //EDIT IN YOUR MONITOR

DO NOT OVERWRITE ANYTHING ELSE

5.
You guys running x800xt to x850xt and x1600 or comparable Nivida cards, leave everything else in that list alone, save the new notepad file as FSX.cfg. Since you backed up you original FSX.cfg, simply drop the new one in the directory:

C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR ACCOUNT NAME\Application Data\Microsoft\FSXDemo

HOWEVER:
If you are running a high end 6000-7000 series Nvidia, x1800 or x1900, edit the following line in the list below under the heading [TERRAIN] from 4 to:

WATER_EFFECTS=5

And increase the frame lock under the [DISPLAY] heading from 22 to:

UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=28

Save the new notepad file as FSX.cfg. Since you backed up you original FSX.cfg, simply drop the new one in the directory:

C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR ACCOUNT NAME\Application Data\Microsoft\FSXDemo

NOTE:

When you boot the sim, do NOT change any settings. If for some reason the sim refuses the card entry, go to SETTINGS – CUSTOMIZE – GRAPHICS and enter the following information:

For x800xt to x850xt and x1600 or comparable Nivida cards:

Frame Rate = 22
Full Screen Resolution = YOUR NATIVE MONITOR SCALE x32
Filtering = Anisotropic
Global Options = 100% slider
Lens Flair and Advanced Animations = Check
Bloom = UNCHECKED
Click OK

For the higher end cards, everything else is the same as above but raise the target frame to 28

Click OK, then CLOSE the Sim and reopen it.

THE FIRST TIME YOU RUN THIS NEW CONFIGURATION:

Go to FREE FLIGHT

IMPORTANT: For Weather, PLEASE select EITHER Building Storms OR Cold Fronts

Select the aircraft and fly out of Princess Juliana. Time of day is up to you.

Once on the runway, pan 360 around the exterior of the aircraft several times so the textures fully load, then take off. Once in the air a tad, pan 360 around the exterior of the aircraft again severl times.

There is no guarantee this will help you but you can see if it improves your experience.

EDIT:
If you find it a bit too much and jerky... reduce the following ONLY:

Under Traffic:
Airport Vehicle Density= LOW

Scenery:
Scenery Objects...
Complexity = Very Dense
Autogen = Dense

Mesh Resolution = 5 m
texture Resolution = 30cm

Dont change anything else utill you test those numbers!!

EDIT:
For any card, if you find it a bit too much and jerky... reduce the following ONLY:

Under Traffic:
Airport Vehicle Density= LOW

Scenery:
Scenery Objects...
Complexity = Very Dense
Autogen = Dense

Mesh Resolution = 5 m
texture Resolution = 30cm

Dont change anything else utill you test those numbers

FSX is very much like FS9... even though there are chnages to the rendering engine, its a load balance that makes it work and look best

Hope that helps

Give it a shot... just use the settings I posted for the x800... then use the reduced settings

If they are still too high, bring the mesh resolution up to 10 and the LOD_RADIUS, under TERRAIN to 3 instead of 3.5

Ohhh... and drop your fame lock to either 18 or 20 on that card

You might be suprised

Worked for me, exellent Wink. On mine I decided to turn up LOD radius and turn down the cars. Looks much better.

Hopefully my new vid card (maybe DX10) will be abled to completly max out the water Wink

The Frame rate killer is easily water, I tried with medium shader 2 and it ran like crap.

Its actually in this order of importance..

LOD RADIUS = because it controlls all of the items below it... you must have this balanced FIRST with the other items as high as they can go, then start to back off the items, starting with water BUT you want to have at least some good reflection so 4 is the lowest you can go... If your not running a dual procesor or SLI, LOD RADIUS needs to be based on MEDIUM to Medium-High and Weather on High, not Ultra.

The order of reduction is...

WATER
AIRPORT and CAR EXTRAS (not boats, leave em at 50%)
MESH RESOLUTION
AUTOGEN SCENERY
TEXTURE RESOLUTION

and so on

Aircraft Traffic should always remain as I set it

It is also important to run a weather theme with clouds of some type, believe it or not. FE DXT3 super-reduced quality clouds look like awesome 32bit monsters in FSX. If you use FE, you can select the cloud set, set it for reduced quality AND DXt3, then install them into FS9,,, go to the FS9 texture folder and tranfser ALL the cloud textures to the FSX texture folder. Clouds in FSX do not render as much of a hit as they do in FS9 however every little bit helps if you dont have a powerful system.

after three months of messin with FSX if I see a stutter I immediantly know exactly which slider needs a shave.  Grin

Its the configuration file for the FSX demo program... It presets your FSX demo to settings I know should work fairly well for both visuals and performance.
