So after all the discussion about what type of aircraft this is, I can now tell with 99% (I leave the 1% for those who wish to argue otherwise open) certainty that it is either an Air Bus A318 or 19 or 20.
Having come home for the weekend after the first week of an Air Bus A320 maintenance course, I can ID the engine. It is an IAE V2500. They are fitted to the MD-90 and as an option to the CF-56 on the Air Bus. I think we can agree that it is not an MD-90 in the picture.
