Hello all, sorry for this being a first post and all. I will announce my arrival, and post up, however firstly I have a problem with fs2002. I have had the game for a long time and it has worked fine in the past, however after uninstalling it to free up some hard drive space i decided to install it again and have another bash. However i have now noticed that there is no atc audio and no engine sounds except only for the cesner. I tried taking off and i can hear the wheels rumbling along the runway but when i take off the sound stops. I have tried everything, but i don't know what the problem is. I'm using xp home and really need some help peeps.

Welcome to Simviation, archamedes.

I'm sure your problem is caused by corrupted audio CODECs. The solution is to uninstall and reinstall the CODECs from your original Windows CD. These files are not a part of FS2002.

If you're not sure of how to do this, search the Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) for audio CODECs and see what you can come up with for Win XP.

If that doesn't work, search for "KB177252", an article that addresses your problem for Win98, WinME and Win2000. The instructions may still be useful to you.

Let us know if you have any luck getting the sounds back.

Regards,
JerryH

So simple ... but have you ,with game running, gone to your settings and checked all sound settings? Because stock (cessna) sound works I doubt that you have a computer or windows problem.
I,too, have had some problem with only original aircraft sound working and that corrrected ITSELF after starting to fly w/stock aircraft and then switching to a downloaded AC in flight.
Good Luck

sorry to double post here, the problem isn't being sorted and i wondered if anyone had the audio codec file that they could send me via email or msn. Because like i said my laptop didnt come with a disk and there is absolutly nothing on the microsoft website to do with them. I'm sure if anyone has the windows xp home should be compatible with my system. anyone who knows the right file and wants to share it pm me. Thanks to anyone that can help

I doubt it's a codecs problem if you can hear some FS sounds but not others because they are all the same format.

You can easily test this by navigating to C:\Windows\Media and trying to play some of the .wav files in there.  If you can hear them it's not a codec problem and I'd check the program  - settings, aircraft folders to make sure the files are there, etc.

If you can't hear any sounds at all I'd suspect a sound card driver problem before I'd suspect a codec problem.

If you really need codecs you can get them here http://www.free-codecs.com/

No sound at all anywhere = driver.
Some sounds but no .wav sound = codecs.
Some sounds in FS but not all = FS problem.

lol every audio codec and video codec had been installed yet it didn't solve it, so i decided to reformat my whole computer because there is a lot of crap on there that i cant uninstall and there are a few corrupted files so bascally my computer needed to be reformatted so when i installed fs2002 it worked as it did before, thanks for the link, cos i will need them codecs anyway as i am now doing the slow process of getting my computer as it was by installing all my stuff again
