I suggest that the "What are you listening to now?" thread is locked forever. The first incarnation was fine. But the way it's been kept for six parts now is rediculous. It's worse than the "This or that" threads and all those others that were just spam on a plate.

it is a boost your post count thread if you ask me. I won't post in it, but then I'm not really into music anyway.

I agree with ll of you.
I think it is totally useless.
I just have kept it going to keep the people who have asked happy.
In reality though, does it really matter

Fair point - it is harmless, but the six threads do account for (roughly, to within a thousand or so) 40,000 out 600,600 odd posts on the forum, or getting on for 7% of the total posts. I'm not technically minded enough to know how that effects the forum itself...

I am often amazed on how many times people say that post counts don't matter and then other people complaining about Post count boosting threads... I think the thread in question isn't a post booster thread....
I usually listen to music on the forums and what's wrong with posting what I'm listening to... I like to see what kinda music other people listen...
Maybe the Older threads can be deleted but I don't see any reason to lock these threads forever...
Just IMO of course..

The point is no one actually reads it. There's no discussion it's just people posting for the sake of it. And if what Charlie say's is true and the total posts now runs at 40,000 then it's definately time to stop it.

I agree. I don't visit the thread anyways. Just spam to me. Besides, I don't have time to read 20+ pages of who is listening to what.

All it does is make the "new posts" indicator in the main forum indicate a new post in the forum, you go in, and it's just yet another "I'm listening to this song for the 15th thime this month" post...

Not only that it's unspeakably annoying to see a new post in the music forum, you go in to see if it's interesting and all it is is yet another person tell all that at this very moment they're listening to Rammstein.

i'm in the delete the threads group. Who actually cares? and think of the free space it'll free up, and perhaps speed the place up a little. surely people have more important things to contribute now?

Agree with everything being said here, I certainly don't give a damn what other people are listening to....there's no interesting discussion and people just post there for the sake of posting....Delete it now if you ask me.

The obligatory "What are you listening to" threads are always an excuse to waste db space. In my own forums (which sadly died a month ago) there were around 16 members, and we got to
TWENTY
pages of who's listening to what.
I suggest we replace it with a single thread where you can post the link to you radioblog. It'd save a lot of time and db space.

OK, reverse thrust to the beginning of the target thread jammed up the browser tabs in my 1st check in nearly two years.

1. Umm, yeah,I've thought that we could make this place a bit more "spammy".
So: What song is currently running in your CD/MP3/cassete/record player?
2. I'm listening to: The Kinks - You Really Got Me
This is the far coolest song in the game Battlefield Vietnam.
3. Ideal for thundering over the Jungle in a Huey..
1. mission successful
2. the title's a bit kinky (twisted) -- more appropriately, He Really Got You
3. with all of those pages, it really is a jungle, Huey!
*
As a matter of mention, I made a 'gospel' version of this song.

Irritating isn't it.

I agree with Woodlouse, and AS i have been saying lately, we need forum pruning.
when we switch to a PHP forum (mabye PHPbb) we get that forum pruning option, so the board isn't overflowing with random an useless threads.
and I think this may be part of the root cause of Profile changes not working. it has to go through every post and change it. not cool...
Lock it.
Ramos - was victim to all of it... now Much better with Katahu's "Marmalade - Now with More Umph!"
