Had to stop at a Radio Shack today to gets some odds and ends for work, and saw these... I couldn't resist, as they were marked down to just under $9 each. The guts will come in handy for my planned simpit, and now, between these, the Freedom 2.0, and the X45, I have pretty much all the pots and switches I will need.

I was going to wait until I get an LCD for the homebuilt projector before I start building the 'pit, but I might just go ahead... now I'm more inspired, and I can always use it with a small monitor until I build or buy a projector.
But first I have to finalize the design... ;P

I noticed the hat switch on this (kinda cheesy) unit only goes left and right- or am I mistaken? I haven't plugged it in; just took it out of the box to look at it.

Hi Rottydady
if you want to buy good quality components try this site.
http://www.mouser.com/index.cfm?handler=home

I have bought their 8 way hat switches which I have put into my pit and they work very well.

They will sell in small lots which is great for us.

If your interested I can post some pics of how I made the cct board etc for the Hat switches.

cheers

I'm planning to hack controllers only because I want to avoid making any boards... I'll just extend the leads (using a terminal strip most likely) and keep the guts of the sticks as is. Worked very well for my rudder pedals (although those are offline pending mechanical revisions).
But I'm definitely curious about any other approach.... and thanks for the Mouser link; I will of course need lots of switches and buttons for the panels.
But I'm
